We’ve barely even become accustomed to the HTC Sensation and now HTC is bringing us the HTC Sensation XE. This dual-core 1.5GHz badboy is basically a slightly upgraded version of the HTC Sensation that focuses predominantly on music by making good use of HTC’s deal with Beats Audio (commonly known as Dr Dre’s Beats among other titles).

The phone ships with a pair of Beats earplugs, rather than HTC’s standard earphones. These Beats cans don’t just offer better sound quality than your average pair of handset headsets, but also boast a bit more functionality. Users can skip forward or backward in tracks, pause music and even answer calls without ever removing the phone from their pockets. We’re actually amazed this approached hasn’t already been adopted on a wide scale by phone manufacturers.

Audio is a crucial part of any consumer's mobile experience and we are continually pushing the audio boundaries to encompass not only improved voice but music, movies and games," said Jason Mackenzie, president of global sales and marketing, HTC Corporation. "The HTC Sensation XE offers a truly incredible experience that demonstrates our commitment to place consumers at the center of their mobile worlds.

Unfortunately the two biggest issues of the HTC Sensation – the mere 1GB of available on-board storage and disappointing 768MB of RAM – have apparently not been fixed. This is a pretty serious bummer and we would have much preferred to see these problems attended to rather than a boost in CPU power to what was already an extremely potent processor.

Either way the HTC Sensation XE looks like it will be a solid media-focused device and we’re happy to see HTC taking this approach to its higher-end devices, rather than focusing on some gimmicky mid-ranged handset. What do you think? Do you think the Sensation XE sounds like a great idea, or are there any reasons you can see to be hesitant?
