Fido and Koodo each have a limited-time offer on special 1GB plans. Both have dropped the price down from $60 per month to just $53. On top of that, Fido’s plan offers free access to Spotify Premium for 2 years.
It’s not all sunshine and roses. Usually the 1GB $60 plan has unlimited calls; these two promotional plans have just 300 minutes.
The thing is, that should be just find for most users. Have a good think about how much time you spend on the phone – 300 minutes works out to roughly 10 minutes a day. If that doesn’t sound like you, then you can save a solid $7 per month ($168 over two years), and even get free Spotify Premium if you go with the Fido option.
Serious savings for Spotify users
If you’re a Spotify Premium subscriber, you’re paying $9.99 per month for Spotify alone. Add that to the $7 per month you’re saving on the 1GB plan, and you come to a cool $16.99. Over two years, that’s $407.67 – not bad.
Just be careful how you use Spotify when you’re relying on cellular data. Being a Premium member means that you can download tracks to your phone, so you’re not using data when streaming over your cellular plan. This is a very good idea on a 1GB cap; otherwise you’re likely to go over in short order.
Try to restrict any streaming or downloads to when you’re on WiFi and you’ll be cheering.
Fido or Koodo?
Although the two carriers are usually pretty much identical, this time Fido is the winner thanks to the Spotify Premium subscription. Even if you’re not a current user, this is a good chance to get in to the world of music streaming and see how you like it. You might find yourself to be a convert in no time.
