Cook confirms April release date for Apple Watch

28 January 2015

During today’s Apple earnings call, CEO Tim Cook confirmed the news that fans and curious onlookers have been waiting to hear – the anticipated Apple Watch will ship out in April.

Although a little later than sources had predicted (with March being the previously rumored launch month), an April release date still technically qualifies as ‘early 2015’ as Apple initially promised.

Cook said that development for the company’s first-ever wearable is on schedule, but unfortunately didn’t reveal any further details regarding specific launch dates or pricing. We do know that the Watch will be priced from $349 USD for the standard versions, up to possibly thousands for the elite ‘Edition’ models.

Cook is already talking up his own experiences with the device, telling investors that he ‘can’t live without’ the wearable. Whether or not you believe Cook’s claims as to the life-affirmingness of the Apple Watch, analysts are predicting sales of up to five million devices in the first quarter of the year (although the new April launch date may see this number decrease).

While Apple diehards will likely love the Watch regardless of what it can and can’t do, the real test for tech lovers is battery life – so far, reports suggest a daily charge will be required.
