Fido debuts new Pulse plans with free Spotify Premium

Rogers Wireless’ subsidiary Fido has undergone a makeover, revealing new smartphone plans that include free Spotify and Vice content.

In what’s apparently an effort to attract a new and more cell-savvy user base, Fido is revamping its overall brand and its two-year plans. While standard talk and text offerings are still available, Fido’s new ‘Pulse’ plans have increased the data and added plan features for subscribers.

The new Pulse plans are as follows:

Pulse Data, Text and Talk Smart Plans

All below plans include up to $350 in subsidies for customers buying a new device on a two-year contract. You’ll also get a free two-year subscription to Spotify Premium, and two years of Daily Vice access.

$49 per month ($40 BYOD): 400MB of data, 300 Canada-wide minutes, unlimited text and MMS and unlimited talk on evenings and weekends.

$55 per month ($45 BYOD): 750MB of data, 500 Canada-wide minutes, unlimited text and MMS and unlimited talk on evenings and weekends.

$60 per month ($55 BYOD): 1GB of data, unlimited talk, and unlimited text and MMS.

$70 per month ($65 BYOD): 2GB of data, unlimited talk, and unlimited text and MMS.

$80 per month ($70 BYOD): 3GB of data, unlimited talk, and unlimited text and MMS.

$90 per month ($80 BYOD): 4GB of data, unlimited talk, and unlimited text and MMS.

$99 per month ($85 BYOD): 5GB of data, unlimited talk, and unlimited text and MMS.

Pulse Data, Text and Talk Max Plans

Customers buying a new subsidized phone will save up to $450 on these plans, and also receive a bonus two-year Spotify Premium subscription and two-year Daily Vice access.

$80 per month: 500MB of data, and unlimited talk, text and MMS.

$85 per month: 1GB of data, and unlimited talk, text and MMS.

$105 per month: 3GB of data, and unlimited talk, text and MMS.

The new Fido: free music and Vice Media

The addition of bonus music and media subscriptions is, according to Mobile Syrup, part of Fido’s plan to target the ‘millennial’ demographic of users born between the early 1980s and 2000s.

Spotify Premium has a $9.99 per month value, and allows users to enjoy unlimited streaming music both online and offline, completely ad-free. The service already partners with several networks worldwide to offer included premium access as part of mobile plans.

Daily Vice, however, is something entirely new. The service will provide Fido customers with exclusive content from Vice Media, including news and original reporting from Canada and worldwide.

The downside to Fido’s plan changes is that the company’s FidoDOLLARS loyalty program will no longer be available. If you’ve already accumulated FidoDOLLARS, they’re yours to keep and spend on a new device - but will no longer be valid if you change your mobile plan.
