We've been tracking cell phone plans since 2008 and have learned how to spot a great deal. If you're looking for a simpler and cheaper alternative to the plans offered by the Big Three, Koodo is an excellent option, especially because Koodo Mobile is owned by Telus, which means all of their plans operate on the largest, most reliable network in Canada.

The best Koodo prepaid plan is the $37 Unlimited Canada-Wide Calling Plan, which offers 18GB of 4G data. We also like the $28 Quebec-Wide Calling Plan, which gives you 1GB of 4G data. If you're looking for the cheapest option, check out the $15 Prepaid Plan, which gives you 250MB for basic browsing on the go.

Read on to find the best Koodo prepaid plans available now.

How we picked the best Koodo prepaid plans

  • Price & value
We ensured you’re getting the most bang for your buck without sacrificing on the essentials to keep you connected.
  • High-speed data
We looked at whether the amount of guaranteed “premium” data was reasonable for the plan price, and flagged if you’re being overcharged for data you likely don’t need.
  • Coverage & network reliability
We evaluated each carrier’s nationwide 4G LTE and 5G coverage to predict your service quality (no dropped calls allowed!).
  • Plan extras and perks
If you get free Netflix or a hefty hotspot, we factored those in relative to the cost of the plan.

Best Koodo
Prepaid Plans

Koodo Mobile
4.5 out of 5 overall

$37 Prepaid Plan | $37/month

  • Pros: Generous data allotment, reliable network, bring your own phone
  • Cons: No 5G, basic phone options

Prepaid plans are often designed with basic users in mind and, as a result, offer minimal data at slower speeds. This Koodo plan, though, provides more than the standard. For $37/month, you pick up 18GB of 4G data on the Telus network. For those looking to game or stream on-the-go, this won't be fast enough, but 4G speeds will be adequate for the majority of Canadians.

If you're looking to pair a phone with the plan, your options are limited to basic smartphones like the Alcatel 1B, TCL 303, and ZTE Blade A7P, which can only be bought outright. If you already own a device you like, we recommend you bring your own phone to cut down on costs.

$28 Quebec-Wide Calling Plan | $28/month

  • Pros: Inexpensive monthly payment, reliable network, BYOD
  • Cons: No 5G, only available in Quebec

This plan is ideal if you're looking for something cheaper. The Quebec-Wide Calling Plan is limited to 1GB of 4G LTE data per month and unlimited talk and text. That won't be enough for users who use data on the go (through streaming or browsing), but it'll be fine for customers who need a cheaper monthly payment and tend to save their internet use for Wi-Fi.

Before buying a plan, you should check your monthly data usage and research how much data you really need.

Cheapest Koodo
Prepaid Plan

Koodo Mobile
4 out of 5 overall

$15 Prepaid Plan | $15/month

  • Pros: Cheapest plan available, unlimited international texting
  • Cons: Limited minutes, minimal data

The $15 Prepaid Plan is the cheapest Koodo prepaid plan available. With 250MB of 3G data and unlimited international texting, the plan offers more than the typical barebones prepaid plan.

Of course, something this cheap comes with some sacrifices. The plan is limited to 100 nationwide minutes, and the data allotment is only for customers enrolled in automatic top-up. Still, considering the price, we think this is a solid option for people interested in keeping costs as low as possible.

If you're interested in pairing a phone with the plan, we recommend the ZTE Cymbal 2, a throwback flip phone that only costs $85 upfront.

Methodology: How WhistleOut rates cell phone plans

WhistleOut evaluates phone plans based on the following criteria:

  • Price & value: Not all cheap plans are “bad,” and not all expensive plans are worth it. We look at everything a plan includes and compare it both to other plans from the same carrier, as well as similar plans from competitors in the market, to determine whether the value is consistent with the price.
  • High-speed data: Also called “premium” data, this is how much data you get at full 4G/5G speeds before they can or will slow down. The more guaranteed high-speed data the plan includes, the better experience you’ll generally have—but there’s also usually a limit to how much you actually need, and we ensure that you’re not overpaying for data that will go unused.
  • Coverage & network reliability: The breadth of each carrier’s 4G LTE and 5G networks determines your reception and service. Particularly in the case of 5G, some carriers offer far more robust coverage than others, which affects how their phone plans perform in different parts of the country.
  • Plan extras and perks: In addition to the basics—talk, text, and data—some plans throw in freebies like hotspot allowances, cloud storage, entertainment subscriptions, or service discounts.

Our mobile experts leveraged proprietary data and real-world customer feedback to evaluate the best Koodo prepaid plans. We considered plan-specific elements, including perks, premium data allowances, and mobile hotspot allocations. After performing hands-on testing and extensive research, including customer feedback, we picked the deals we feel meet the needs of most people.
