Article Summary
WhistleOut has found four great ways to save on your Bell cell phone bill. Just by adding an extra line you immediately save $10/month. The more lines you add, the more you save—and everyone gets more data too! Add tablets, a smartwatch and even connect your car to the mobile internet and you might get more services for cheaper than you're paying right now.
Bell Mobility offers the largest LTE network in Canada. Their prices aren't always the best, but you can save a lot by combining more than one phone line into one account. All smartphones get unlimited talk and text, but they share one large data pack. You can add LTE-enabled smart devices like tablets, smartwatches and mobile internet hotspots to share the data and even get a deal on bonus data.
If you have a car built after 1996 then you may even be able to top up that data plan with a Connected Car device that relays information about your car to your smartphone and creates a local Wi-Fi right there in the car.
4 Ways to Save With Bell Family Sharing
Packaging multiple phone lines together reduces your monthly bill and makes paying it easier. Yet there are more ways to save with Bell Mobility when you have more than one smartphone, tablet, smartwatch, or more.
Unlimited Data Plans
This is easily one of the best mobility features to come to Canada since the flip-phone. Not only do you choose a high data cap of 10, 20 or 50GB, but you don't pay any data overages on Unlimited plans. When you hit that data cap then your downloads are slowed to 512Kbps. That's still fast enough to stream music, but video playback will buffer. Put everyone in your house on Bell unlimited data plans and you won't have to keep checking usage to avoid data overages.
Connect Everything Share Plans
When plans start at 10GB, you're probably not going to worry about data overages very much. Most Canadians use less than 2GB per month. Put three or four family members on one Connect Everything Share plan and you get to split 30 or 40GB however you see fit! The more you add, the more you all get. Switch up just one account to a 50GB plan and you all get to share the bounty. The savings don't stop, because Connect Everything Share plans are eligible for additional savings when you have a tablet or smartwatch.
More Lines Equals More Savings
Every smartphone line you add to your account after the first one gets a $10/month discount for up to 24 months. No strings attached. Got three lines? Boom, you're saving $30 per month. Four lines knocks $45 off your monthly bill. Share the savings or just keep it all for yourself. Discounts apply to Connect Everything Share plans and Unlimited Data plans, but there's one more way to save when you have a data-sharing plan...
Add A Tablet, Smartwatch or More
Bell, Rogers and Telus all let you add LTE-enabled smart devices and share data with your smartphone plan. However, Bell offers the most options including tablets, smartwatches, and even Wi-Fi for your car.
LTE-Enabled Tablets
For $10/month you can use the shared data from all your Connect Everything share plans, and Bell will add an extra 1GB for 24 months. Devices start for $0 down and they offer low-end models all the way up to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro! When you buy an Android tablet or Apple iPad, you finance part or all of the price on a Tablet Share plan for two years.
Make The Time for a Smartwatch
Buy an LTE-enabled Apple Watch for $0 down and Bell will let you finance it over two years. During that 24 months you can add $10/month and put your new smartwatch on your Connect Everything plan to share your smartphone's data, and they'll throw in an extra 1GB and give you your first month free.
Mobile Hotspot for Internet Everywhere
Bell offers a variety of Wi-Fi and USB-based hotspot devices to get any internet-capable device on Canada's largest mobile network. For $10/month Bell will let you share your Connect Everything plan with a mobile device, but unlike tablets or smartwatches they won't add any extra data to your plan.
Make Any Car A Connected Car
Canada's largest network gets your car online. Some 2018+ Ford and Lincoln vehicles have this option built-in, but almost any car manufactured after 1996 can get a device that plugs in under your console to get you online. Bell will sell you one for $199.99 or an additional $5/month on 2-year Connected Car data plans.
You can track driving activity, get alerts right on your cell phone, and put your Connect Everything data plan right in your cabin as a local Wi-Fi network. Very useful for long trips with tablets that only have Wi-Fi connectivity.
Bell also offers the most options for Connected Car data plans. For $10 you get an extra 1GB added to your Connect Everything plan and tap into that data pack. If you don't have a Connect Everything plan, you can go for the $20/month 5GB plan. They also offer Flex data plans, but they're not competitively priced compared to the other two flat-data prices.
If you have a 2018 or newer Ford or Lincoln vehicle that supports Bell's built-in hotspot then you can sign up today and get a complementary 3GB trial. However, 5GB monthly data packs are $35/month which is way more than the $20/month for connected cars without LTE data built-in.
Why Get A Family Plan?
There are a lot of reasons to get a data share plan over individual plans:
- One data bucket can offer lower cost-per-gigabyte options
- Save $10/month on every additional qualifying smartphone plan
- Every mobile line appears on one bill
- Add a tablet, smartwatch or even Wi-Fi in your car and all devices can share the same data plan
- Put your elderly parents, kids or even friends on the plan. There's no rule that they need to be related to be on your "Family" plan
- Children who have moved out or elderly parents living in another province can still share your account
- There might be cheaper plans in Manitoba, Saskatchewan or Quebec. If a family member lives there, take a look at those rates.
