Best Calgary Internet Providers

Telus

Telus
5 out of 5 overall

If you’re looking for the best from Calgary internet providers, you’ll want to check if Telus’ fibre network is available in your area. Fibre internet offers users crazy fast download and upload speed options with lower latency and more reliability. Not being impacted by nearby internet traffic is a huge advantage over other internet types. Telus’ fastest plan offers unlimited internet with a ridiculously fast 2.5Gbps download speed and 2.5Gbps upload speed, but other options are available if that’s more than you need.

  • Up to 2.5Gbps download speeds
  • Both contract and no contract options are available
  • Can bundle with TV, home phone, cell phone, and home security services

TekSavvy

TekSavvy
4.5 out of 5 overall

The first independent internet provider on our list, TekSavvy, is here thanks to its wide variety of plans, services available for bundling, and strong high-speed internet connections available to Alberta residents. While we recommend cable internet over DSL, TekSavvy has both options available for customers. Its DSL service reaches 75Mbps download, while its cable speeds reach a crazy fast 1000Mbps. Regardless of your needs, TekSavvy has a plan that fits your home.

  • Up to 1000Mbps download speeds
  • No contract internet service
  • Can bundle with TV and home phone services

Shaw

Shaw
4.5 out of 5 overall

Despite being a cable internet provider, Shaw has a 1.5Gbps plan that nearly matches Telus’ in download performance. The download speeds can’t reach what fibre is capable of, but most people won’t notice a huge difference since Shaw still offers 100Mbps upload on its fastest plan. We love Shaw’s strong cable performance, especially for gaming, but the value begins to taper off a bit as you go with slower plans.

  • Up to 1.5Gbps download speeds
  • Some of the best cable internet in Canada
  • Can bundle with TV, home phone, and cell phone services

Shaw

Shaw
4.5 out of 5 overall

Calgarians have the benefit of choosing between two internet providers that provide 1.5Gbps speeds. Shaw’s cable internet is extremely strong, very fast, and among the most reliable in the country. • Fastest available download speeds: 1.5Gbps, 1Gbps, 750Mbps
  • Fastest available upload speeds: 100Mbps, 10Mbps
  • Available connection types: Cable

TekSavvy

TekSavvy
4.5 out of 5 overall

If you’re looking for alternatives to Telus and Shaw, there are still three gigabit offerings from internet providers in Calgary to review. TekSavvy offers a wider range of speeds than most other ISPs, including 100Mbps, 500Mbps, and 1000Mbps plans at their top end. The upload speeds available are worth noting, with the Cable 500 Unlimited internet plan offering TekSavvy’s fastest upload speed at 100Mbps, while the Cable 1000 Unlimited internet plan only has 25Mbps upload speeds.

  • Fastest available download speeds: 1000Mbps, 500Mbps, 100Mbps

You can also find gigabit internet with VMedia. There are 1000Mbps, 750Mbps, and 300Mbps options available for you to pick from, ensuring your speed needs meet your budget. Like TekSavvy, VMedia offers cable and DSL unlimited internet plans, but we recommend avoiding DSL if you can, thanks to the reliability advantages that cable provides.

  • Fastest available download speeds: 1000Mbps, 500Mbps, 100Mbps
  • Fastest available upload speeds: 100Mbps, 25Mbps, 10Mbps
  • Available connection types: Cable, DSL

Calgary Internet Provider FAQs

FAQs
The best internet provider in Calgary is Telus, thanks to its lightning-fast fibre internet service. You can pick up a 2.5Gbps plan (with 2.5Gbps upload speed to match), allowing you to connect plenty of devices and stream plenty of content hiccup-free without any worry about the connection slowing down.
Internet plans in Calgary range from about $40/month to more than $120/month. Shaw and Telus have the most expensive plans, but independent ISPs like TekSavvy have plenty of plans that will fit your budget.
Telus has the fastest internet in Calgary with its 2.5Gbps download speeds. The Telus fibre plans allow faster upload speeds and are generally preferable to cable plans. Other Calgary ISPs that offer gigabit or faster speeds include Shaw, TekSavvy, Eastlink, and VMedia.
You can find discounts on home internet that last for a limited time to help keep costs down. These will usually last for six months, one year, or two years if you’re on a contract. You’ll also want to ensure that you’re getting the plan that makes the most sense for you speed-wise instead of signing up for the fastest plan and overpaying.
We recommend 50Mbps download speeds and 10Mbps upload as minimum speeds. Plans in the $75/month range can get you a solid 150Mbps plan which is fast enough for 10–12 devices at a time, without hurting the wallet too much. If you’re streaming plenty of 4K content, gaming, or have even more devices on your network, then you may want to look at a faster option.
