Fizz Mobile's 5G services are finally available in select regions, and it's exactly what I've been waiting for from the carrier.
Fizz Mobile has long been a favourite among price-conscious carriers in select provinces around Canada. In late 2025, parent company Videotron evolved Fizz’s service beyond 4G LTE into 5G coverage, giving budget users access to faster speeds in supported areas while keeping its hallmark flexibility and online-first experience. That new infrastructure means modern cellular services with fast speeds with a prepaid billing model.
Recently, I dug into how Fizz’s 5G service performs in the real world, how it fits into the broader Canadian wireless landscape, and whether it’s worth considering if you want 5G access. I tested the network across Southern Ontario cities, including Toronto, Hamilton, and Burlington, testing its 5G performance while streaming, scrolling social media, and hotspotting.
Here’s my full Fizz Mobile review, based on hands-on testing and real-world use of the newly launched 5G service.
How I tested Fizz Mobile
This past month, I have been using Fizz Mobile's 40GB data, Talk and Text plan on my iPhone 17 Pro. My goal was to see whether this prepaid 5G service could realistically replace a traditional postpaid carrier in a busy metro like Toronto.
Here’s what I tested:
- 5G connectivity strength in downtown Toronto and southern Ontario
- Calling and sending texts in congested areas around Toronto, including Union Station
- Video calling on Zoom and Discord using 5G data
- Streaming content across Spotify, Netflix, and YouTube
- Playing games via the cloud
- Hotspotting my laptop from my phone while at Toronto Pearson Airport
- Uploading and downloading video files to Google Drive
- Contacting customer service to determine willingness to help
The bottom line
Fizz Mobile now sits as a solid option for affordable 5G service. But, your location still limits your access since Fizz doesn’t service everywhere: You have to live in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, or British Columbia—though Manitoba does have 4G LTE coverage. Outside of these areas, Fizz Mobile customers can only access roaming (EXT)services with partnering carriers, which isn't all that great when you rely on your mobile service for day-to-day communication and tasks.
Fizz Mobile plans and pricing
Fizz’s prepaid plans have become very competitive in 2026, particularly because 5G access is included on most mid-to-high data options. Many flanker brands like Lucky Mobile or Fido (smaller brands that use the networks of larger carriers) don’t offer any 5G plans, but Fizz includes 5G on any plan with 40GB or more.
If you're in need of 5G access and live in a supported area, Fizz Mobile has a few plan options to choose from:
Fizz Mobile phone plans
| Plan | Premium data | Peak download speeds | Price* | Shop plan |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 25GB Talk and Text | 25GB on 4G LTE | Up to 150Mbps | $25/mo. | View Plan |
| 33GB Talk and Text | 33GB on 4G LTE | Up to 150Mbps | $29/mo. | View Plan |
| 40GB Talk and Text | 40GB on 5G | Up to 300Mbps | $35/mo. | View Plan |
| 100GB Talk and Text | 100GB on 5G | Up to 300Mbps | $40/mo. | View Plan |
On top of providing affordable plan options, Fizz Mobile also lets you customize your plan. You can easily save a few dollars each month by getting rid of any unwanted features. For instance, you can remove unlimited texts, unlimited minutes, or voicemail access and save upwards of $7/month or more.

Alternatively, you can add international calls to a selected country for $2/month. You can choose from China, Germany, Ireland, and many others, adding up to 1,000 minutes to use each month. You can also customize your Fizz coverage. Customers can choose from local provincial coverage, Canada-wide coverage, or Canada + USA coverage, with varying prices.
Fizz Mobile family plans
Simply put, Fizz Mobile does not offer any family plan options nor savings for having multiple lines on a single account. Customers can activate as many lines on a single account as they'd like, but every account must have its own data plan.
It's a bit of a strange omission. Fizz Mobile's parent company, Videotron, does offer family plans. The Quebec-based carrier supplies customers with up to $15/month in savings for each line when four or more are activated. Fizz Mobile customers don't get any of that treatment, unfortunately.
Am I satisfied with the 40GB Talk and Text plan?
Yes, Fizz Mobile's 40GB Talk and Text plan is smack dab in the middle as the sweet spot for most modern smartphone users—especially when you use it as a primary line in Toronto and Southern Ontario. Over the past few weeks, I’ve used it for a wide range of everyday tasks, and it’s consistently proven itself capable without overcharging for data I didn’t need.
Where the plan feels weaker is beyond the core urban 5G coverage. In many rural pockets, Fizz Mobile still leans on LTE or partner networks, which means performance still varies compared with cities that have denser 5G builds. But even then, LTE remained strong and reliable, just not as fast or future-proof as mid-band 5G.
How I rated Fizz Mobile
WhistleOut's criteria span five key metrics, including price, value, speed, coverage, and customer service. Each is rated out of five stars. The average is then used to form the carrier’s overall score.
Here's a breakdown of Fizz Mobile's ratings across various metrics:
- Price: 5 out of 5
- Value: 4 out of 5
- Data speeds: 4 out of 5
- Coverage and network reliability: 2 out of 5
- Customer service: 3 out of 5
Price
Fizz is one of the most affordable ways to get 5G in Toronto. A 40GB 5G plan costs you roughly $37 per month, undercutting many similar plans on the market. When looking at the carrier market, many plans around $30 and $40 only offer 4G LTE networking.
Fizz Mobile also offers ways to cut or add features based on your monthly needs. With this competitive edge, Fizz Mobile can be even more cost-efficient when looking at the Canadian market as a whole. It's very rare that carriers actively allow you to decrease your monthly plan by shedding unwanted features.
When signing up with Fizz Mobile, there are no activation fees and no hidden overage charges because plans are prepaid. That alone adds tangible value if you don’t want to empty your wallet.
Price: 5 out of 5
Value
Fizz Mobile is one of the cheapest alternatives providing 5G networking in Canada. In provinces with 5G network coverage, it's hard to compete with a monthly cost below $40. Under this price tag, you also get all the Canada-wide talk and text features you'd need.
Even if we ignore Fizz Mobile's 5G offering, the price of the carrier's 4G LTE plans is still pretty competitive against other MVNOs like Fido, Lucky Mobile, and Virgin Plus. Perhaps these carriers do offer cheaper plans, but you'll likely be given smaller data pools. Fizz Mobile strikes a nice balance between price and feature sets. This all makes Fizz Mobile one of the more affordable and sustainable carriers in Canada.
Value: 4 out of 5
Data speeds
Assessing Fizz Mobile’s data speeds in Toronto was one of the most interesting parts of testing, especially because 5G is still relatively new for this prepaid brand. In core parts of downtown Toronto like Union Station and the Eaton Centre, Fizz Mobile’s 5G regularly delivered download speeds between 180–250Mbps on compatible devices. These speeds made a noticeable difference over LTE in day-to-day tasks like streaming, uploads, and hotspot usage.
Fizz’s 5G experience isn’t uniform everywhere. In some suburban locations, I saw frequent handoffs between 5G and 4G LTE. On the GO Train between Union and Hamilton, my phone toggled between 5G and LTE in and out of coverage pockets. While on Fizz Mobile's 4G LTE network, I saw speeds top out at around 100Mbps. Still, even with slower speeds, I was still able to browse the web, scroll through social media, and flip through endless TikToks, only with the occasional buffering.
Compared with premium 5G carriers like Bell or Telus, Fizz doesn’t hit the same ultra-high data speeds. Though for everyday tasks, most Canadians use their phone for, including streaming video, social media, and tethering, Fizz’s 5G feels fast enough and a meaningful step up from 4G LTE.
Data speeds: 4 out of 5
Coverage and network reliability
Fizz doesn’t operate on a typical Canada-wide network, and neither does Videotron. Instead, it primarily operates on the parent company's infrastructure (which is strongest in Quebec). Outside of Quebec, Fizz Mobile is primarily available in Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba, and British Columbia. The company then supplements services on an EXT network with partnering carriers elsewhere in Canada. This hybrid setup gives Fizz a broader footprint than many early-stage carriers, even though coverage experience can vary regionally.

Where 5G is available
Fizz’s 5G rollout is still a work in progress. As of the time of this review, the carrier's 5G network is available in cities such as
- Montreal
- Quebec City
- Toronto,
- Vancouver
In Toronto’s dense urban environment, I experienced strong coverage, including data and voice, almost everywhere I tested. From downtown streets to the packed shopping district and busy transit hub, signal strength remained strong and consistent. Phone calls held up on narrow sidewalks, busy intersections, and even deep inside buildings. Data sessions rarely dropped, and media downloaded without frustrating hiccups.
Fizz’s network reliability in Toronto and the surrounding area is strong because it doesn’t rely solely on one infrastructure. When native coverage drops, partner roaming kicks in to keep you connected, even if speed consistency dips slightly.
For as good an experience as I had in southern Ontario, it's important to bear borne in mind that those in Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, etc., won't have the same experience. Across many provinces, Fizz Mobile solely relies on partnering networks. Without formal first-hand experiences, I simply can't comment on the quality or reliability in these areas.
Coverage and network reliability: 2 out of 5
Customer service
Fizz provides an entirely digital service experience. There are no retail stores or traditional phone support lines. Instead, you manage your plan through an online dashboard via a browser.
In my testing, plan changes, data top-ups, and usage monitoring were straightforward through the dashboard. Support via chat was generally responsive for simple questions to more complex issues. This support was especially true when navigating questions around billing or account changes. However, as expected, this took longer than a typical phone support system. Fizz Mobile also supports an entire community-driven forum, where it encourages customers to interact and help each other, driven by its My Rewards program.
User feedback suggests a similar pattern: Many appreciate the value and features, while others call out frustration with slower responses on deeper issues or confusion about roaming networks.
Customer service: 3 out of 5
Signing up with Fizz Mobile
Signing up was painless. I chose the 40GB Talk and Text plan online, selected eSIM activation, and within minutes, my phone's service was live. Porting my existing number from another carrier worked smoothly. For anyone thinking of porting their number over to Fizz Mobile, be sure not to cancel service with your old provider before the port finishes.

There are no activation fees when signing up with Fizz Mobile, which helps keep the initial cost down.
Unfortunately, without a store, kiosk, or any physical Fizz Mobile locations in Canada, everything from signing up to managing your account is done online. Fizz Mobile provides a web dashboard and a mobile app to help manage your account and the My Rewards program, which I'll cover below.
Managing My Rewards
Fizz Mobile offers its My Rewards program as part of a long-term, built-in loyalty system for customers. My Rewards is designed to give customers bonus value simply for maintaining an active account, rather than offering extra perks or benefits from partnering companies. Fizz focuses on pragmatic rewards you can redeem for more data each month, as well as savings on your monthly plan.
Fizz Mobile's My Rewards program is a tiered system, with every dollar paid on your monthly bill equating to 10 My Rewards points. Bonus points are granted to customers who invite friends to activate a Fizz plan, gift data, or interact with the carrier's ecosystem. These points can then be redeemed for 250MB of extra data, for instance, or a $1 rebate on your monthly bill.
Fizz Mobile has built out its My Rewards program with quite a lot of intricacies for those who engage within the ecosystem. We have a thorough setup of My Rewards to cover everything from the level system to Badges and more.
Unfortunately, seeing as though I was only using Fizz Mobile for a month, I wasn't able to interact with the My Rewards program as much as I had hoped. To truly reap some of the rewards, you have to be a customer for at least three to four months.
Data allotment
Fizz Mobile’s 5G plan is very capable for entertainment and even light gaming—especially compared to its LTE network. While on Fizz Mobile's 40GB Talk and Text plan, I was able to consistently stream content and use cloud-based gaming services like Xbox Cloud Gaming during my testing.

Image:Image: Steve Vegvari | WhistleOut
I streamed both 1080p and 4K content on Netflix and YouTube with no notable buffering in core 5G zones within Toronto. Even when switching between apps, the resolution adapted smoothly, offering very little or noticeable latency. In high-traffic downtown coffee shops, peak hours didn’t noticeably throttle quality. While streaming Spotify, I was able to stream and download audio without data stalls, even while navigating transit.
I dipped into services like Xbox Cloud Gaming and browser-based cloud games during a shorter commute. Performance was playable and responsive for titles with moderate latency tolerance (e.g., puzzle games, light racers). When testing games that require tighter latency, such as first-person shooters or fast action, there were occasional stutters or lag spikes. You certainly don't want to be playing a competitive game on Fizz Mobile's 5G, but that's to be expected.
Fizz Mobile versus the competition
When you stack Fizz’s 5G offerings against other popular mid-tier and flanker brands in Toronto and across Canada, the value picture becomes clearer. I’ve compared Fizz primarily with Virgin Plus, Fido, and Lucky Mobile. Now, these flankers don't offer the same 5G network access. However, they are the most comparable in terms of data allotment and pricing.
Fizz vs. Competitors
| Feature | Fizz 40GB Talk and Text | Virgin Plus 60GB Talk and Text (BYOD) | Fido 40GB Talk and Text | Lucky Mobile Data, Talk and Text |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Premium data | 40GB | 60GB | 40GB | 40GB |
| High-speed hotspot | Up to 300Mbps | Up to 250Mbps | Up to 150Mbps | Up to 150Mbps |
| Network | 5G | 4G LTE | 4G LTE | 4G LTE |
| Additional plan perks | No activation fee, My Rewards perks | Access to Member Benefits | 3% cash back value with a Rogers Red credit card | NA |
| Price | $37/mo | $49/mo | $55/mo | $39/mo |
| Shop plan | Shop plan | Shop plan | Shop plan | Shop plan |
Fizz Mobile’s 5G performance outpaces carriers that still lean heavily on LTE, such as Virgin Plus. It sits in a similar bracket to Lucky Mobile's pricing while doing so. Virgin Plus and Fido are both comparatively more expensive while also providing slower speeds for customers.
Fizz’s hybrid network approach performs well in Toronto and major Ontario cities but shows variability in more rural or fringe suburban areas. Virgin Plus, Lucky Mobile, and Fido all lean on larger Canada-wide infrastructure, giving them a more refined edge in broad rural coverage (though Fizz’s roaming agreements help keep service functional).
Virgin Plus, Lucky Mobile, and Fido all tack on menial plan perks and benefits to supplement the monthly cost. Fizz Mobile has a built-in rewards system that, if you are a long-term customer, has practical benefits. However, much of the My Rewards system relies on your engagement beyond paying your monthly bill to amass reward points.
Recap: Would I recommend Fizz Mobile?
Fizz Mobile has successfully pulled off something ambitious, being a prepaid carrier that delivers 5G access at highly competitive prices. While its 5G coverage isn’t yet as extensive or as fast at peak levels as the biggest networks, it’s more than sufficient for most everyday needs, whether it's streaming, browsing, social media, or moderate hotspot use.
Combined with features like data rollover, data gifting, and monthly plan flexibility, Fizz Mobile’s 5G service offers excellent value for Canadians who want 5G without the price or commitment of traditional postpaid carriers. Whether you’re a student, a budget-focused user, or someone looking for flexible prepaid wireless, Fizz Mobile’s 5G plans are well worth considering in 2026; you just have to be lucky enough to live in its coverage.
