As one of the Big Three providers in Canada, Telus is known for its reliable 4G and 5G coverage, excellent customer service, and a wide array of cell phone plans and devices. If you're looking for the best Telus plans for your wallet, you've come to the right place.

We've been studying the telecom space since 2008 and have learned how to identify the best plans from any carrier. We combed through Telus’ plans and handpicked the best unlimited, family, and cheap prepaid plans. This includes the Select 100 5G+ Canada–U.S. and Unlimited Family Plan. If you’re looking to grab a new iPhone or Android along with your new plan, we recommend checking out some of the best Telus phone deals

Read on to see the best unlimited, family, and prepaid plans from Telus right now.

How we picked the best Telus plans

  • Price & value
We ensured you’re getting the most bang for your buck without sacrificing on the essentials to keep you connected.
  • High-speed data
We looked at whether the amount of guaranteed “premium” data was reasonable for the plan price and flagged if you’re being overcharged for data you likely don’t need.
  • Coverage & network reliability
We evaluated each carrier’s nationwide 4G LTE and 5G coverage to predict your service quality (no dropped calls allowed!).
  • Plan extras and perks
If you get free Netflix or a hefty hotspot, we factored those in relative to the cost of the plan.

You can read more about our detailed methodology below.

Best Overall
Telus Phone Plans

Telus’ best overall plans are designed for customers who want premium network access without automatically selecting the carrier’s most expensive option. The Select 100 5G+ Canada–U.S. plan is particularly compelling for frequent travellers, remote workers, and users who regularly hotspot a laptop. It offers a large full-speed data allowance, access to Telus’ faster 5G+ network where available, and the ability to use your plan in both Canada and the United States.

The more expensive Complete Explore plans are aimed at frequent international travellers and exceptionally heavy data users. They can provide significant value if you regularly use roaming, make international calls, or rely on mobile data as part of your work. However, these plans are excessive for anyone who spends most of their time connected to Wi-Fi. A lower-priced Select plan will provide almost the same day-to-day experience without pushing the monthly bill above $100.

How TELUS performed in our testing

I tested Telus’ 5G+ Complete Explore plan for a month across Toronto and rural parts of Ontario. In downtown Toronto, I regularly recorded speeds between 250Mbps and 500Mbps during off-peak periods, while busy afternoon conditions brought speeds closer to 120Mbps. Even then, I could stream Netflix, play games through the cloud, upload video files, and power my laptop through a mobile hotspot without major interruptions. LTE speeds averaged around 80Mbps when I moved beyond stronger 5G areas, which remained perfectly usable for navigation, email, and general browsing. Read our full Telus review for the complete test results.

Best Telus
Unlimited Plan

Telus unlimited plans are best for customers who want predictable bills and don’t want to worry about data overage charges. These plans include a set amount of high-speed data; after you reach that threshold, your connection continues at a reduced speed for the remainder of the billing cycle. You stay connected, but demanding activities such as HD video, large downloads, and hotspotting become significantly less practical.

For most people, the Unlimited 100 5G plan provides the best balance. Its 100GB allowance is generous enough for frequent streaming, social media, video calls, navigation, and occasional remote work. The Select 100 5G+ Canada–U.S. plan costs only slightly more under current pricing and is the stronger option if you travel south or want access to faster 5G+ speeds. Larger Complete plans are mainly worthwhile for travellers and users who consistently consume well over 100GB of data each month.

Best cheap Telus Cell
Phone Plans

Telus is no longer accepting new prepaid activations as of July 1, 2026. Existing Telus Prepaid customers can keep their current service and continue topping up, but new prepaid customers are directed to Koodo Prepaid instead. As a result, the cheapest plans displayed in older Telus widgets may not be available for new activations.

For a new customer who wants to stay directly with Telus, the cheapest option is usually an entry-level postpaid or bring-your-own-phone plan. These plans provide access to Telus’ nationwide network but may still cost more than comparable service from Koodo or Public Mobile. Budget shoppers who do not need Telus’ premium perks should compare those flanker brands first; both use Telus’ network while generally charging less.

Mobility for Good

If there’s one service that sets Telus apart from the competition, it’s the non-profit Mobility for Good initiative. Originally launched in British Columbia to help young adults transitioning out of foster care, Telus expanded the program during the COVID-19 pandemic to include low-income seniors and Indigenous women at risk.

Products and services provided by Mobility for Good include:

  • Free refurbished smartphones and plans for youth and Indigenous women
  • Subsidized plans and devices for seniors
  • Telus Wise resources promoting digital literacy and safety workshops

Canadians can donate previously used phones and tablets in good condition to the program at any Telus store. Other Telus Connected for Good programs include low-cost internet, technology solutions for Canadians with disabilities, and medical services for vulnerable members of our communities.

Telus family sharing plans and discounts

Telus offers family-sharing discounts when you bundle two or more cell phone plans on one account. Each additional line on your wireless bill reduces the cost for all your mobile plans. With at least four phone plans, you can save $15 per line each month.

Another great benefit to Telus family plans is data cap sharing. Each plan's full-speed data limits combine to make one large data pot. Combine three 25GB plans on your account for other family members, and everyone can share a total of 75GB before speed throttling kicks in. The account holder can even limit how much full-speed data each line gets, so give the kids 10GB and save the rest for yourself!

If you're jealous you don't have a house full of kids to take advantage of these family plan discounts, we've got a secret for you: There’s no rule saying everyone has to live in the same home to share a Telus account. Add your kids, parents, relatives in another province, or just your best friend. A discount is a discount.

The best Telus family-sharing plan depends on how much data your particular family needs. But we think the best option for most families is the Unlimited Family Plan with four lines, which gives you lots of shareable 5G data for $200/month.

We've got a list of the best options below, but feel free to use the WhistleOut search to toggle for the exact amount of data you need.

Methodology: How WhistleOut rates cell phone plans

WhistleOut evaluates phone plans based on the following criteria:

  • Price & value: Not all cheap plans are “bad,” and not all expensive plans are worth it. We look at everything a plan includes and compare it to other plans from the same carrier, as well as similar plans from competitors in the market, to determine whether the value is consistent with the price.
  • High-speed data: Also called “premium” data, this is how much data you get at full 4G/5G speeds before they can or will slow down. The more guaranteed high-speed data the plan includes, the better experience you’ll generally have—but there’s also usually a limit to how much you actually need, and we ensure that you’re not overpaying for data that will go unused.
  • Coverage & network reliability: The breadth of each carrier’s 4G LTE and 5G networks determines your reception and service. Particularly in the case of 5G, some carriers offer far more robust coverage than others, which affects how their phone plans perform in different parts of the country.
  • Plan extras and perks: In addition to the basics—talk, text, and data—some plans throw in freebies like hotspot allowances, cloud storage, entertainment subscriptions, or service discounts.

Our mobile experts leveraged proprietary data and real-world customer feedback to evaluate the best Telus plans. We analyzed their coverage, cost, and plan options and considered plan-specific elements, including perks and premium data allowances. After performing hands-on testing and extensive research, including customer feedback, we picked the family plans we feel meet the needs of most people.
