Flickr released a major update today to their iOS app. Much of the talk has been about the addition of filters (ala Instagram) but there's a lot more to it that is worth a look. The contacts view. Double tap = favoriting/liking the photo (chalk up another nod to Instagram). You can flick across to see more pics from any one contact, or down to see more contacts. Tap on a photo to go through to a details page & comment.
Yes, you read that correctly. Google Maps is finally available on the iPhone… again. After Apple’s infamously failed Maps catastrophe, iPhone users can finally gain access to the world’s most used navigation service. It seems that, despite doing its best, Apple simply wasn’t able to compete with Google in terms of, well, quality.
A UK student has created a semi-functional virtual keyboard system for the iPhone that, as far as hardware goes, requires only a table and the iPhone itself. The system uses the built-in accelerometer to determine how far away a finger is hitting the table by judging vibration strength relative to the phone.
The iPhone 5 needs no introduction. Apple’s latest and greatest addition to its iconic line of smartphones has burst on to the scene with all the excitement and hoopla of its predecessors. Once again we have seen huge lines of eager buyers on launch day (myself included, if you’d care to read my thoughts on the experience) and record-breaking sales.
The Wall Street Journal recently reported that Apple has been testing out a new, smaller-screened tablet than the iPad and iPad 2 that could be released alongside the iPad 3 in March. The new display reportedly measures 8 inches diagonally, down from the 9.7 inch screen of the current iPad range.
Well the hoopla over the iPhone 4S is starting to die down now and it seems it’s about time to get back in to the iPhone 5 rumor business. The latest goss we’re starting to hear about the place is that Apple is currently testing out quad-core applicability, as well as considering upping the res on the iPhone 5 to 720p.
Tim Cook, new CEO of Apple, made his first big product announcement at the Let’s Talk Apple event. Among the announcements were iCloud, iOS5, the iPod Touch 5, some upgrades to the iPod Shuffle and Nano series and the long awaited… iPhone 4S. The sigh around the internet was almost audible when it became apparent that we would not be seeing the iPhone 5 this time around. Most fans were hoping for at least an external design change from the iPhone 4. Of course we went through exactly the same thing a bit over 2 years ago with the iPhone 3GS, but the extended wait for the iPhone 4S had many thinking that we were going to see something totally new this time around, rather than another upgrade with an identical form-factor.
Apple’s finally given the world an announcement date for its next iPhone launch event. On October 4th all rumours will be laid to rest and bloggers the world over can take a deep, relaxed breath once we finally get to clear up all the hearsay and find out the facts about the next iteration of iPhone.
So it turns out that there’s some leaked info which hints that just maybe the iPhone 5 could possibly be seeing some potential stock shortages when it’s eventually released… supposedly. The folks over at TiPB have reported a rumor that Apple is experiencing some “design and production” issues with the iPhone 5.
Hundreds of cell phone plans unpacked. All the facts. No surprises.
