Fido FAQ's

From any page on the Fido.ca desktop website you should see SIGN IN at the top right of the page on the yellow banner. On mobile devices you need to click on the menu icon (three horizontal lines) at the top right, then you can click on Sign in. From your mobile device you can also install the My Account app (links in section above) and manage your device plans that way.

Enter your username (email address, Fido phone number or Group ID) and your password. Click the LOG IN button and you'll be able to view your current and past bills, plan use (data, minutes and texts), and make a payment.

To make a payment, click Billing & Payments. You can make a payment using debit or credit card, or set up pre-authorized payments.
Owned by Rogers and using their wireless network, Fido features high speed 4G-LTE coverage for more than 97% of Canadians you should be able to get signal in most populated parts of the country. Signal may drop further from the main cities, but a strong 3G network often helps reach far corners. Where Rogers fails, Bell and Telus may pick up the slack. Check to see if your Fido plan includes Extended Coverage and you'll be able to access your minutes, texts and data even when on these partner networks.
Fido has low-cost, midrange and flagship phones to buy outright or pay for over two years. If you have a phone you love then you may choose a Bring Your Own Phone (BYOP) plan and save at least $10/month over buying a new phone on a monthly plan. All phones in Canada are sold unlocked, but you may need to unlock yours if you've had it for more than two years.
You can even keep your phone number if you're coming from another mobile carrier. Even if you're moving from a landline in your home, you can use that number at Fido. Don't cancel your plan before you sign up with your new provider or you risk losing your phone number.
Yes. Like many carriers, Fido launched data-only plans for smartphones in 2019. Fido offers the widest variety with plans for 250MB, 500MB and 1GB with unlimited text. Talk time was originally pay-per-use, but is now completely locked out. You'll need to get a 3rd-party VoIP phone number if you want that feature. Both prepaid and postpaid prices are the same.
If you're looking for a tablet plan, Fido has the best offer in Canada with 4GB at $15/month. There's no talk or text, but you can technically use it on a smartphone. Just don't let them catch you or they'll terminate your plan without warning.
Yes. As you approach your data cap, you will receive a text message warning you. You'll receive another text when you hit that cap and your data downloads and uploads will cost $10/100MB.
Fido will charge you up to $50 (or $100 roaming) in data overages before pausing more data downloads. The Account Holder can authorize additional charges. You can also log into MyAccount and block any overage charges from occurring.
Yes, Fido offers discounts for family plans, although the carrier doesn't offer family sharing plans. For accounts with multiple lines, Fido will take 10% off the monthly price of all but the primary plan. You can choose which plan that is too, so pick the cheapest plan as the primary and set up the rest for a 10% discount.
Fido offers deals on new cell phones for as little as $0 down. Tab Small plans are normally $10/month more than a BYOP plan, and Tab Medium plans cost an extra $15/month. Tab Large and up are at least $30/month more, so you may not be saving much on one of those plans. If you need to pay a little more upfront to get a phone on a Tab Small or Tab Medium, it may be worth it.
WhistleOut's cell phone and plan finder tool lets you see compare the whole cost of a deal over two years.
There are no advertised discounts for seniors or military. At WhistleOut Canada, we've heard of people getting a military discount when speaking to a customer care representative in-store, so give it a shot and let us know if it worked.

Fido Customer Service & Reputation

In the four years that J.D. Power and Associates have been ranking customer care by Canadian mobile providers, Fido has consistently rated just above average. While that's good enough to put it ahead of parent-company Rogers, it places well behind direct competition from Koodo and Virgin Mobile.

While customers have historically been happy with Fido customer care, on May 14, 2019 they began charging a $10 fee for transactions performed over the phone. Since these services can be performed using self-serve options, they consider it a cost of doing business. However, we'll see if it affects their reputation when we get next year's Customer Care rating.

Why Choose Fido?

While it's not the cheapest, Fido offers "mid-tier" mobile service. You get access Rogers' full-speed LTE wireless signal and a great selection of phones to choose from, but you'll spend hundreds of dollars less for the service. Cell phone coverage serves 97% of Canadians, and extended coverage is available for more remote areas.

They also offer unique bonuses, like Fido XTRA perks which offer exclusive discounts and contests for restaurants, entertainment and more.

Many smartphone plans also include a "5 hours of data" per month bonus, which lets you turn off the data meter for one hour, five times each billing period. Perfect if you're stuck in a waiting room and want to catch up on you Netflix shows.

Fido offers cell phone plans on the Rogers Wireless network at lower prices, and with unique perks like 5 Free Hours of Data each month. New phones can be bought below the retail price on two year plans, but the best deals can be found when you Bring Your Own Phone.

Prices in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Quebec are even lower. Punch your address into our plan search tool to see all plans available in your area.
