Best oxio Plan in
Vancouver and CALGARY

From the Pacific coast, through the Rockies, and across the Prairies—Western Canada has some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country. Many residents of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba receive cable internet connectivity from Shaw Communications. As a result, these lucky customers can switch to oxio and save money on home internet. There’s no better feeling than cutting your monthly bill and picking up a free eero 6 Wi-Fi router in the process.

oxio | Internet 100 | $57/month—Best Vancouver/Calgary internet plan

The Internet 100 plan isn’t oxio’s fastest or cheapest plan, but it might be their best value. $57/month will get you 100Mbps speeds and unlimited data. Shaw prices are comparable, but those plans require a two-year contract for the best price. There’s no such requirement from oxio—you can leave at any time. You also get a free eero 6 Wi-Fi router just for subscribing.

Most Vancouver and Calgary residents should find 100Mbps sufficient for their needs. With oxio’s Internet 100 plan, multiple people in your home can stream movies, play online games, and chat with friends at the same time without experiencing network slowdowns. The upload speed is sufficient for most video conferencing applications, but file uploads might take a while.

  • Pros: Fast speeds, unlimited data, free eero 6 Wi-Fi router, no contract
  • Cons: Competitors offer faster plans

Quebeckers don’t need to give anything up by switching to oxio. With oxio TV and home phone service, you can still get all your needs met, and for less than you’re probably paying with Videotron right now. Take a closer look at our favourite pick or choose from oxio’s many other plans available.

3.5 out of 5 overall

oxio | Internet 120 | $63/month—Best Quebec internet plan

Our experts chose this plan because it includes enough bandwidth for three or four people in your household to use the internet simultaneously. With 120Mbps download speed, you can stream premium TV content on several devices around your home. The upload speed of 20Mbps is pretty good, enabling you to video chat and play a few rounds of Among Us online at the same time.

We also considered choosing the Internet 60 plan as the best option since it delivers good high-speed internet performance for $53/month. However, households with more than two internet users will likely prefer double the bandwidth by opting for the Internet 120 plan. It’s an affordable upgrade for just $10 more per month.

  • Pros: Affordable price, unlimited data, free eero 6 Wi-Fi router, no contract
  • Cons: Slower uploads

CRTC sets wholesale broadband internet rates

Oxio is completely upfront about its costs, unlike most other internet providers. Every plan includes a breakdown of each cost contributing to the monthly total. The “network” fee is what oxio pays to facilities providers like Rogers, Videotron, and others to deliver internet service to your home. These rates originate from the CRTC, a government organization regulating radio and telecommunications in Canada.

Recent changes to these rates make it difficult for independent ISPs like oxio to compete with facilities providers’ own consumer internet services. Depending on the market and service, oxio can sometimes offer significant savings over facilities providers. In some cases, its plans may be more expensive! If you feel that third-party internet providers should have more resources to compete with large telecoms, you can write to your MP and ask for more affordable internet options.

The adage “the more your spend, the more you save” pays off with oxio. Jump on its top-tier plan and never wait to binge that next TV show.

oxio | Internet 300/400 | $79–$84/month—Best premium internet plan

All of oxio’s internet plans are affordable because it doesn’t artificially inflate prices just to make a bigger profit. So, why not spend more to save more? Download speeds on oxio plans max out around 300–400Mbps, which means you’ll never suffer slowdowns at the hands of your internet connection. Upload speeds range from 15–50Mbps. Your download and upload speeds depend on where you live, but this is still an affordable option.

In Ontario, the Internet 300 plan delivers 300Mbps download speeds and 20Mbps upload speeds for $79/month. That’s a fantastic deal when you consider Rogers only offers 150Mbps at $105/month! In Quebec, it’s a harder decision as Videotron’s 400 Gbps plan matches oxio’s Internet 400 in speed but costs less. The story is the same in western Canada where Shaw’s 500Mbps plan is faster and cheaper than oxio’s Internet 300 plan. Since oxio is making razor-thin profits on every customer, it makes us wonder if the CRTC-mandated rates are truly fair.

  • Pros: High-speed cable internet, affordable price, unlimited data, free eero 6 Wi-Fi router
  • Cons: Cheaper options available

Methodology: Picking the best oxio plans

WhistleOut has a team of auditors who regularly check and confirm the plans oxio offers to keep our data up-to-date. We reviewed 16 plans across three markets: Ontario, British Columbia/Alberta, and Quebec. When ranking each plan, our experts consider price, availability, speed, and perks.
