Koodo home internet is a solid option for high-speed cable internet service in Mantioba, Ontario, and Quebec. While some of Koodo’s competitors offer faster speeds for less money, they also saddle customers with hidden fees and lengthy contracts. Koodo’s plans are straightforward and affordable, even if they lack some of the frills of the competition.

Koodo’s home internet service is especially sweet for Koodo mobile customers, who can save up to $21/month on internet when they bundle their services. In the process, they’ll also gain access to Stream+, Telus’ streaming service that includes Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime.

We dug into the fine print to find everything you need to know about Koodo home internet. Read on for our comprehensive review.

Plans & pricing

Plan Availability Max download  Shop this plan
Unlimited Internet 100 Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec 100Mbps $65/month
Unlimited Internet 500 Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec 500Mbps $100/month
Unlimited Internet 1 Gigabit Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec 1Gbps $110/month

Koodo’s internet plan options are rather straightforward, with three options geared at three different kinds of households. Small households with typical internet users (browsing, streaming, and the occasional videoconference) will find the Unlimited Internet 100 to be a good fit, especially because of its appealing $65/month pricetag. Families looking to cover multiple devices should spring for the Unlimited Internet 500, which provides 500Mbps downloads, fast enough to accommodate simultaneous gaming and streaming. Work-from-home professionals will want Koodo’s fastest internet plan, the Unlimited Internet 1 Gigabit, which offers blazing fast 1Gbps downloads and 50Mbps uploads, all but ensuring their work day will be free from laggy meetings and drops in service.

You get a solid deal with Koodo internet, especially if you bundle the service with a mobile plan. Compared with other cable internet providers in Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec, Koodo appears to be more expensive, though that’s a bit misleading. Unlike their competitors, Koodo’s plans don’t come with installation fees or mid-contract pricehikes. Best of all, Koodo offers a 30-day money back guarantee, meaning you’ve got nothing to lose.

Our take on Koodo home internet

We evaluate every ISP by considering what their plans offer customers in four unique domains. Let’s see how Koodo’s plans do in those areas.

Price & value

Koodo’s plans are affordable, especially when bundled with mobile plans. They might not be the cheapest plans on the market, but they also lack the hidden fees and price spikes that so many other budget ISPs include in their plans. We also like that Koodo’s plans are prepaid, meaning you’ll never be locked into a contract–if you find a better deal elsewhere, you can always jump ship at the end of the month.

Speeds & data

Koodo’s three cable plans all offer unlimited data and speeds far beyond what the CRTC has designated as a “good internet speed.” The slowest Koodo plan, which offers 100Mbps downloads and 30Mbps uploads, is still fast enough for most internet users. Koodo’s fastest plan, the Unlimited Internet 1 Gigabit, is slower than plans from Bell, Rogers, and Telus, but that shouldn’t be a concern for anyone looking for residential internet: most household routers can’t deliver speeds faster than 1Gbps, meaning Koodo’s fastest plan is about the best most people can get.

Coverage & network reliability

Koodo home internet customers on Reddit were split on the service’s reliability: some reported speeds slower than advertised, while others said they found the service to faster and more consistent than previous plans from other ISPs, with one user noting that “reliability is a thousand times better.”

Koodo is currently available in Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec, though customers will need to confirm their address before activating a plan. You can do that by using our search engine to find what plans are available near you.

Plan extras & perks

Every Koodo plan comes with a free modem and router for the length of your service, saving you from the rental fees other ISP’s charge or from spending hundreds of dollars on buying your own. The real perks, though, come with bundling. Koodo’s Happy Stack allows you to bundle a cell phone plan, an internet plan, and a Stream+ Basic account together. In the process, you can save up to $21/month—along with scoring access to Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime.

Koodo vs. the competition

Koodo’s plans are a solid option if you’re looking for affordable cable internet in Manitoba, Ontario, or Quebec. Competitors like oxio and Telcan offer similar no-frills plans and no-term contracts and, in some cases, better deals for the same speeds. But if you’re already a Koodo Mobile subscriber (or you’re also in the market for a new cell phone plan), then Koodo’s bundling option is the obvious choice, with savings far beyond what oxio or Telcan can offer.

Koodo’s main limitation, though, is its connection. Cable plans might boast fast download speeds, but their uploads drag far behind. That means upload-intensive activities, like videoconferencing or online gaming, that would perform seamlessly on a symmetrical fibre plan like TekSavvy’s Fibe 3 Gig Unlimited might experience some latency issues on Koodo’s fastest option.

How we reviewed Koodo home internet

WhistleOut evaluates internet plans based on the following criteria:

  • Price & value: Not all cheap plans are “bad,” and not all expensive plans are worth it. We look at everything a plan includes and compare it both to other plans from the same provider, as well as similar plans from competitors in the market, to determine whether the value is consistent with the price.
  • Speed & data: Faster upload and download speeds usually mean a better user experience, but not every household needs the fastest plan available. Additionally, the more guaranteed high-speed data the plan includes, the better the plan—but there’s also usually a limit to how much you actually need, and we ensure that you’re not overpaying for services or data that will go unused.
  • Coverage & network reliability: The breadth of an ISP’s network determines your reception and service. We value ISPs with large coverage maps who can provide quality internet to more Canadians.
  • Plan extras and perks: In addition to the basics—speeds and data—some plans throw in freebies like modems, installation, entertainment subscriptions, or service discounts.

Our internet experts leveraged proprietary data and real-world customer feedback to evaluate Koodo home internet, analyzing their coverage, cost, and plan options. We considered plan-specific elements, including perks, premium data allowances, and upload/download speeds. After performing extensive research, including customer feedback, we compared Koodo to other comparable ISPs (oxio, Telcan, and TekSavvy) in order to place Koodo’s services in context.
