According to a report by the Taiwan Economic News, Apple has secured two new manufacturers to supply battery packs for the upcoming iPad 3. These new packs are reportedly thinner than lighter than anything Apple has used before in its iPad tablets. Tech sites such as PhoneArena have speculated that this could mean that the iPad 3 as a whole will be thinner and lighter than the iPad 2. If true this would hardly be surprising, given Apple’s traditional approach to physical design, as well as a need to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Tablet line, who’s profile is also becoming increasingly slim.
The Samsung Stratosphere has hit the FSS with some interesting specs. A 4 inch Super AMOLED display is always great to see from Samsung, the 5MP camera is pretty standard but we do like the inclusion of a 1.3MP front-facing camera. 2GB of internal storage is a bit disappointing but will be made up for with expandable memory. Although we’re as yet unsure if there will be a complimentary MicroSD card that comes with the phone or if it will be an additional cost. We’re also expecting to see it on nothing less than Android 2.3.4, so customers will be able to make good use of that front-facing camera with GTalk video support.
HTC recently unveiled its two newest Windows Phone devices: the HTC Titan and HTC Radar. The HTC Titan is set to be the highest-end of the two handsets. With a whopping 4.5 inch screen it’s immediately recognisable when compared to its other Windows Phone cousins, as it sports the largest screen out of any WinPho devices.
Google Talk (GTalk), if you haven’t heard of it, is an instant messaging (IM) service that supports text, voice and even video, depending on what harder and software you’re using. It comes stock standard on most Android devices and now, as long as nothing unforeseen happens, it’ll be making its debut appearance on the quickly growing Windows Phone platform.
A Korean version of the Droid Bionic’s latest teaser advertisement seems to have finally confirmed the unveiling of the eighth of September (in just a few days) date for the much awaited device. Planned to be released on Verizon Wireless, the Droid Bionic is one of the most awaited devices so far this year, which is somewhat odd considering that we currently know nothing solid about tech specs, other than that it’s supposed to be Verizon Wireless’ first dual-core LTE handset.
Ever since the Google Android 2.3.4 update rolled out to the Nexus S many users have found that their voice search option has been underperforming. Android Gingerbread 2.3.6 is a patch aimed to fix just exactly that as well as… other stuff they haven’t told anyone about yet.
Samsung has recently announced one of its newest upcoming toys: the Samsung Galaxy Note. The first thing one notices about the Galaxy Note is its unusual size. Sporting a whopping 5.3 inch 1280 x 800 display it’s difficult to say whether this device is a tablet or a phone, but whatever you’d call it it’s certainly grabbing a lot of attention.
Samsung’s made a few announcements at IFA recently and the Samsung Wave 3 is one of them. The Wave 3 is not a super high-end device like many of the handsets we’ve seen coming out of Samsung recently. However, that news in itself is a bit exciting considering that the Wave 3 sports a powerful 1.4GHz single core processor which outstrips even the iPhone 4 and many other current high-end devices.
If only 14 year old me could see the world now. A wide-eyed teenager who was proud of his parent's 600MHz home computer and was, frankly, astonished when he realised that home computing had finally surpassed the 1GHz mark. Comparatively, Samsung Galaxy S II is a wonder of modern technology. With a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 16GB of internal memory and 1GB of RAM, it’s nothing short of incredible that Samsung managed to contain it to an astonishingly slender 8.5mm profile. However, it seems that out of all possible contenders for the title, NEC has released the Casio Media N-04C in Japan weighing in at just 7.7mm thick.
It seems that once Samsung churns out a great device the many international variations just don’t stop coming. Next in line to continue the trend are the Samsung Galaxy S II and, to a lesser extent, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 which Samsung has how confirmed will soon be available in LTE capable versions in the US.
