Samsung has recently announced one of its newest upcoming toys: the Samsung Galaxy Note. The first thing one notices about the Galaxy Note is its unusual size. Sporting a whopping 5.3 inch 1280 x 800 display it’s difficult to say whether this device is a tablet or a phone, but whatever you’d call it it’s certainly grabbing a lot of attention.
The most noteable feature of the Samsung Galaxy Note is its stowaway capacitive pen that can be used for note-taking, screen captures and drawing. The concept seems very similar to that of the HTC Flyer tablet, except on a much smaller scale.
This handset will come running Android Gingerbread with LTE and HSPA+ support for super-fast wireless broadband where supported. The dual-core 1.4GHz processor will be powerful enough to handle absolutely anything you would want to throw at is and shouldn’t chew up too much of the incredible 25 000mAh battery (traditionally smartphones only sport a 15 000mAh battery).
The Galaxy Note is also impressively thin for a device of its size and power; coming in at just 9.65mm (0.38 inches)thick with a weight of 178 grams (6.3 ounces). There are also a variety of pre-loaded apps designed specifically to be used with the “S-pen”. These include S Memo for note taking and S Planner as the native calendar.
Currently Samsung is planning to release this device world-wide and is apparently already in talks with major carriers around the globe.
What do you think? Would you be happy to cart around a device this big in order to get a hold of the handy S-pen, or do you think 5.3 inches is just too much of a middle ground between tablets and phones to really grab your interest?
