Samsung Holding ‘Premier’ June 20 Event: Smells Like Galaxy Note III

Samsung has announced a ‘Premier 2013’ event to be held on the 20^th of June at Earl’s Court in London. Specifically mentioned in the press release are the Galaxy and ATIV lines – Samsung’s flagship brands for both Android and Windows Phone.

A Galaxy of devices

The Galaxy flagship for 2013 – the Galaxy S4 – has already made its debut. As such the event hints strongly at the next biggest upcoming ‘Galaxy’ product; the Note III. We could also potentially see the intriguing new members to the Galaxy family: the Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Mega 6.3. The next Galaxy Note 8 tablet is likely to make a showing. The Note 10.1 might also turn up for a spell, but perhaps not. Samsung has historically staggered its tablet releases, so there’s no guarantee we’ll see two finished products of varying size.

Spreading the WP love

The ATIV Windows Phone family is due for an update from Samsung, so it feels safe to expect something along the lines of a new WP flagship. With any luck Samsung’s put a lot of work in to the next ATIV; traditionally the company’s Android focus has left its WP products noticeably wanting. Just compare the ATIV S to the HTC Windows Phone 8X or the Lumia 920 and you’ll see, at the very least, a big difference in immediate visual appeal. The ATIV S was and is a fine smartphone, but the lack of inherent style in its design leaves the viewer with a distinct feeling that Samsung just isn’t fully committed to WP just yet.

Let’s not forget that ATIV also extends to Samsung’s less well-known Windows tablet line. Windows tablets haven’t exactly been taking the market by storm, but they have been impeding on Windows laptop sales. Samsung may still feel it wise to keep a presence in this area of the market, purely because it’s looking more and more like the future of low-end portable PC proliferation.

Laptop lovin’

It’s no secret that Samsung’s recently announced some 13.3 inch displays with a whopping resolution of 3200x1800. The impressive 276ppi resolution beats out both Apple’s Retina Display (227ppi) and Google’s Chromebook Pixel (239ppi) for the title of most densely-packed laptop display on the market. Samsung didn’t comment on any future products that would be seeing the new panels when the news broke around a week ago. There’s a good chance the Korean giant was waiting for this press event to show off the new tech.
