How do I check my Cogeco UltraFibre internet speed?

WhistleOut Canada’s speed test at the top of this page will test your Cogeco UltraFibre internet connection. While connected from your home internet, tap the “Start Speed Test” button. Our app will test your internet download speed under current conditions. Once completed, this page will present our findings in clear language so you can evaluate the results. Run additional diagnostic tests by tapping the “Show More Info” button to receive latency and upload performance results.

How accurate is this Cogeco internet speed test?

Your computer will connect to the closest server, and the internet speed test results should be within 10% of your plan’s advertised speeds (e.g., testing a 100Mbps internet plan could see results as low as 90Mbps under normal conditions). Improve the accuracy of your results by connecting to your cable modem with an ethernet cable instead of a Wi-Fi connection and disabling any other programs or devices accessing the internet.

How do I speed up my Cogeco internet?

You can speed up your internet connection by upgrading to a faster plan, but WhistleOut recommends optimizing your network before spending the money. Try these tips to improve your home internet performance:

  • Unplugging and restarting your modem and router
  • Connecting your desktop or laptop computer using an ethernet cable
  • Adding a Wi-Fi extender to your network to improve reception
  • Rebooting computers, smartphones, and other internet devices
  • Ensuring no background apps are using the internet

If you still have issues getting the expected performance from your internet connection, contact Cogeco support at 1-855-701-4881. Technical support is available seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

A faster UltraFibre plan is the best way to improve the overall performance of your home internet connection if you’re running into bandwidth issues. What is the best Cogeco UltraFibre internet plan?

The best home internet plan from Cogeco is UltraFibre 1G Unlimited. Choosing this plan gives you 1Gbps download speeds and 30Mbps upload speeds. Cogeco also throws in a modem with Wi-Fi 5 without an additional rental fee. One gigabit download speeds sound like far more than you need—and you’re probably right—but you don’t save much money by downgrading to plans like UltraFibre 360 or UltraFibre 180. These plans are only cheaper by $5-$10 per month and offer much lower download speeds.

Why is my Cogeco cable internet upload speed so slow?

Cable internet normally prioritizes fast download speeds over upload speeds. Most internet apps and services require fast downloads, and slower uploads won’t cause issues. Other online services, like video conferencing and online gaming, require fast upload speeds; however, the 10–30Mpbs upload speed available on all Cogeco UltraFibre plans is sufficient.

How fast should my Cogeco internet be?

The download speeds to expect from your Cogeco internet connection are right there in the plan name. For example, the UltraFibre 360 Unlimited should deliver up to 360Mbps download speed, while UltraFibre 1G Unlimited plan subscribers may download up to 1Gbps (1,000Mbps). Cogeco customers can expect upload speeds of 10–30Mbps, which is enough for video conferencing and online gaming.

Where is Cogeco available?

Cogeco home internet service is exclusive to select markets in Ontario and Quebec. The cable provider is the resident option for larger cities like Burlington, Oakville, and Kingston and smaller communities throughout southern Ontario. Quebeckers can subscribe to Cogeco internet if they live within one of its markets along the Saint Lawrence Lowlands up to the Gaspé Peninsula. Enter your address in our Canadian internet plan search tool to see if Cogeco internet service is available in your area and what other ISPs offer.

What are other cheap cable internet providers in my area?

Independent internet service providers like oxio, TekSavvy, and Distributel operate independent networks that connect to your house or apartment through existing infrastructure owned and operated by Cogeco. As a result, you can often get the same download and upload speeds but at reduced monthly fees.

How do I check for a Cogeco internet outage?

WhistleOut Canada has an in-depth guide to troubleshooting your Cogeco internet connection. You can also check for an active internet outage using Cogeco’s outage page. Even if your internet is working fine, visit this page and register your mobile phone number to receive a text message when Cogeco detects a connectivity problem in your area. If it doesn’t appear that there is a widespread outage, call the technical support line at 1-855-701-4881 (available 24/7). You may also send a friendly tweet to @CogecoHelps; the support team typically responds in less than an hour between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Can I save money by bundling Cogeco EPICO TV and telephone?

In addition to high-speed home internet, Cogeco offers cable TV and home telephone service. Both services rely on a Cogeco internet connection to work, so there are no bundling discounts. However, there are other ways to save money; for instance, if you order online, Cogeco credits you the $99 installation fee.
