If you’ve ever signed in to an Amazon service on a phone or tablet – the Kindle reader app included – rest assured that Amazon remembers the gadget you used. Subsequently it’s a good idea to deregister any old devices that you’ve now sold, lost or given away.

You may even have found yourself in the rare predicament of having so many registered Amazon devices that you've exceeded the maximum allowable concurrent devices and your books have stopped syncing.

Amazon’s website doesn’t exactly hang up big neon signs pointing the way towards salvation. Lucky for you, we’ve done the leg-work already.

Depending on your region the precise web address is going to be different. Give this one a go first, but if it doesn’t work then you can always follow the web path.

Navigating the Amazon

Go to Amazon and sign in to your account. Mouse over “ Your Account” in the top right, and once the drop-down appears click on the Your Account link.

Scroll down the page to the Digital Content section and select Manage Your Content and Devices. You should be greeted by a list of your books. Above this are three tabs, the default of which is Your Content. Click Your Devices to the right and you should see a left-to-right view of all your Amazon-registered devices, past and present.

Click on each in turn and hit Deregister. Feel free to do this with impunity. Deregistering a device is by no means permanent. If you accidentally remove a tablet or phone that you still use, you’ll just be asked to sign back in next time you use it.
