We all want great coverage at an affordable price. But more is possible: if you look hard enough, you’ll find a number of Canadian carriers offer great coverage, cheap rates, and additional promotions with their mobile plans.

Fido is a flanker brand operating on the Rogers network, offering some of the best internet and cell phone plans in Canada. The carrier also offers its customers some excellent perks, including the Refer a Friend Program, which allows users to earn up to five free months of service per year by simply sharing a link with a friend.

In this guide, we’ll break down everything you need to know about the Fido Refer a Friend Program, including where to enroll, how to start earning rewards, and where to find the best deals on Fido plans.

How the Fido Refer a Friend Program works

The Fido Refer a Friend Program is a referral program that allows you to earn credits towards your mobile plan bills. The process is simple: Fido customers share a unique link with friends and earn a free month of service for every person who activates a Fido plan through that unique link. Even better? Your buddy will get a free month, too. It’s a win-win.

Fido gives you a code to share with friends so you can start earning rewards.

You can earn up to five months’ worth of bill credits in a single calendar year, starting with the date you’re issued your first credit. It takes approximately 30 days for a reward to be authorized and then two to three billing cycles for it to appear on a bill.

Eligibility requirements

Most Fido customers are eligible for the Refer a Friend Program. Here are the specific eligibility requirements for the program:

  1. You must be an existing Fido mobile customer whose postpaid account is in good standing and has been for at least 30 days. (Unfortunately, customers on the 20GB Plan, one of the best cell phone plans in Quebec, are not permitted to participate in the Program.)
  2. You need to visit fido.ca/refer to sign up for the Refer a Friend Program by providing your email address, name, and mobile number.
  3. You need to accept the Program’s Terms and Conditions.

Making referrals through Refer a Friend is a cinch. Follow the steps below to get started and start earning rewards.

  1. Visit fido.ca/refer.
  2. Enter your name, email address, and Fido mobile number.
  3. Read and accept the Program’s Terms & Conditions. You can skip the second option if you’d rather not receive more emails from Fido.
  4. After you’ve enrolled in the program, you’ll receive a referral link that can be shared directly to social media, copied to an email, or dropped in a text message. If any friends use your link when they activate a new Fido plan, both you and them will earn bill credits.

Best Fido phone plans (for you or your referrals!)

We’re big fans of Fido: the carrier offers affordable plans on the large, nationwide Rogers network, meaning you get the coverage of the Big Three without paying the high prices. If you’re not already a Fido customer, we recommend finding a friend who is and asking for a referral code so you can earn a free month towards your new plan.

The best Fido phone plan is the 30GB Data, Talk & Text Plan, which offers 30GB of 4G LTE data and unlimited talk and text for $55/month. We love the value of this plan: just $55/month gets you a hefty chunk of data on the nationwide Rogers network. If you’re looking for something cheaper, we recommend the $39 Data, Talk & Text Plan, which provides all the same features but with 10GB of 4G LTE data instead of the large 30GB chunk.

Fido cable internet plans

Fido also provides cable internet to Ontario residents. The Refer a Friend Program doesn’t apply to internet plans, but you can add an internet plan to your pre-existing Fido account to keep your bills organized. Unfortunately, Fido doesn’t currently offer discounts for bundling services.

Fido offers two cable internet plans, both aimed at small households with basic internet use. The Internet 100 plan has 100Mbps speeds, unlimited data, and a price tag of $45/month. The Internet 50 is half that speed at 50Mbps and costs $40/month. If you want to learn more, check out our Fido home internet review.
