SaskTel is a mobile carrier owned by the provincial government of Saskatchewan. It provides residents with an affordable alternative to the Big Three Canadian cell phone carriers. SaskTel operates on its own 5G and 4G LTE networks and offers its subscribers straightforward cell phone plans, solid phone deals, and excellent customer service.

We especially like its deal on the Apple iPhone 15, which you can grab for $3/month. If you're looking for a free phone, you can grab the iPhone 13 mini or the Google Pixel 8 for $0/month.

Read on to find the best SaskTel cell phone deals right now.

How we picked the best SaskTel phone deals

  • Price & value
We ensured you’re getting the most bang for your buck without sacrificing on the essentials to keep you connected.
  • High-speed data
We looked at whether the amount of guaranteed “premium” data was reasonable for the plan price, and flagged if you’re being overcharged for data you likely don’t need.
  • Coverage & network reliability
We evaluated each carrier’s nationwide 4G LTE and 5G coverage to predict your service quality (no dropped calls allowed!).
  • Plan extras & perks
If you get free Netflix or a hefty hotspot, we factored those in relative to the cost of the plan.

Best SaskTel
iPhone Deal

iPhone 15
4.5 out of 5 overall

Apple iPhone 15 | $3/month

  • Pros: Cheap monthly rate, sleek design
  • Cons: Two-year contract, limited 5G coverage

Now that the iPhone 15 has been out for a while, we're finally starting to see it drop in price. With its impressive cameras, great battery life, and A16 Bionic chip, the iPhone 15 is a great pick that rivals newer Android devices.

SaskTel’s price for the phone is just $3/month after a $349 down payment.

You’ll get 30GB of full-speed 5G data and unlimited talk and text in Canada and the United States. If you travel outside the province, you’ll still have 4G coverage through SaskTel’s partner networks.

iPhone 13 mini
4.5 out of 5 overall

iPhone 13 mini 256GB | Free

  • Pros: Free iPhone, long-lasting battery
  • Cons: Small display, limited 5G coverage

It's tempting to spring for the newest iPhone on the market, but the best deals are often for Apple's older models. SaskTel's currently offering a deal that allows you to grab the iPhone 13 mini for free. The 13 mini is a solid device with three high-quality cameras, an A15 Bionic processor, and 5G capabilities. The smaller 5.4" screen isn't ideal for streaming or gaming, but we think the price tag (or lack thereof) more than makes up for that downgrade.

The unfortunate part of the plan is SaskTel’s 5G coverage is still growing, meaning you’ll only be able to get the most from this device in select areas of the province. Despite that, we think the phone’s low price and SaskTel’s 4G LTE should be more than enough for most people.

Best SaskTel
ANDROID Deal

Google Pixel 8
5 out of 5 overall

Google Pixel 8 | Free

  • Pros: Free smartphone, large screen
  • Cons: 24-month contract, limited 5G coverage

Our favorite low-cost SaskTel phone deal is their Google Pixel 8 promotion. The Pixel 8 is the tech giant's latest model and offers some of the best features on the market, including A.I.-enhanced photography features like Best Take and Magic Editor, tools that allow you to perfect every image you take.

The phone’s plan gives you 30GB of full-speed 5G data for $85/month, as well as unlimited calls and text messages to Canada and the United States. If you go over, your speeds will be significantly slowed, but you’ll still have access to the network.

Methodology: How WhistleOut rates cell phone deals

WhistleOut evaluates phone deals based on the following criteria:

  • Price & value: Not all cheap plans are “bad,” and not all expensive plans are worth it. We look at everything a plan includes and compare it to other plans from the same carrier, as well as similar plans from competitors in the market, to determine whether the value is consistent with the price.
  • High-speed data: Also called “premium” data, this is how much data you get at full 4G/5G speeds before they can or will slow down. The more guaranteed high-speed data the plan includes, the better experience you’ll generally have—but there’s also usually a limit to how much you need, and we ensure that you’re not overpaying for data that will go unused.
  • Coverage & network reliability: The breadth of each carrier’s 4G LTE and 5G networks determines your reception and service. Particularly in the case of 5G, some carriers offer far more robust coverage than others, which affects how their phone plans perform in different parts of the country.
  • Plan extras and perks: In addition to the basics—talk, text, and data—some plans throw in freebies like hotspot allowances, cloud storage, entertainment subscriptions, or service discounts.

Our mobile experts leveraged proprietary data and real-world customer feedback to evaluate the best SaskTel phone deals. We considered plan-specific elements, including perks, premium data allowances, and mobile hotspot allocations. After performing hands-on testing and extensive research, including customer feedback, we picked the deals we feel meet the needs of most people.
