We’ been secretly looking forwards to plausibly portable laser projectors ever since green lasers were perfected a few years ago and now it looks like our dreams are finally becoming reality. WOWee and MicroVision have teamed up to join PicoP laser projector technology with Gel-Audio based portable speakers, essentially creating a pocket-sized media service that offers a huge, 200 inch cinematic experience.
This collaboration of laser projector and portable sound system will apparently be available in over 120 countries, meaning that most of you reading this will probably have a good chance of getting your hands on one.
If you’ve never used a WOWee ONE Gel-Audio speaker before the principle is pretty simple. Just take the device, place it on a flat surface like a table or plastic case and the vibrations sent out from the device essentially turn said table or case in to one huge speaker. You can check out a quick demo on the WOWee ONE site if you want to know more.
The laser projector is even more simple. Just turn it on and point it at a wall, the floor, the roof or any other large, flat surface.
The two companies are starting their partnership by simply bundling their two products with one another. Hopefully this means that eventually we’ll start to see a single device with both services built-in.
We love it when companies come together to make our lives just that little bit more techy and we can’t wait to see what the future has in store for this kind of technology. Right now the focus seems to be on support for iOS devices, but we're going to hold on hope that this is something that will broaden in to other operating systems with time. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll even see this kind of stuff built straight in to smartphones and tablets. Wouldn’t that be something?
