We’ve mentioned before how similar the Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab devices bare a striking resemblance to their iPhone and iPad counterparts and it seems that we weren’t the only ones to notice.

Apple has finally had enough of Samsung’s lack of creativity when it comes to external design and are suing the Korean giant for copying their “look and feel”. It really isn’t a surprising move considering Apple’s penchant to sue anybody and everybody they consider to be copying them in any way. However, this time it doesn’t seem so ridiculous.

“This relates to the Samsung Galaxy S 4G, which bears more than a passing resemblance to the iPhone 3G / 3GS models, and the slightly less obvious Epic 4G, Nexus S, and Galaxy Tab (presumably the older 7-inch model, since the newer ones aren't out yet) devices.”

Copying Apple’s “look and feel”, as far as external design and basic user interface (UI) goes, was once common practice amongst Android smartphones. However, with Android 2.2 and 2.3 bringing so many changes to the platform most original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) like HTC and Sony Ericsson have started to find better/different ways of doing things for their own devices.

Samsung, on the other hand, seems to have stagnated in the area of basic homescreen UI and external styling. It’s no wonder Apple has finally decided to do something about it.

"Rather than innovate and develop its own technology and a unique Samsung style for its smart phone products and computer tablets, Samsung chose to copy Apple's technology, user interface and innovative style in these infringing products"

We’re not big fans of law suits in general. But at least Apple vs Samsung  might result in the positive outcome of Samsung being forced to show us something new for once. We love a lot of the new designs that are soon to hit the smartphone market and while we love Samsung's devices as far as functionality goes, it’s about time Sumsung pulled its finger out and gave us something interesting to look at.
