Telus provides high-speed fibre internet service and competitive plans, offering a solid option for customers in Alberta, British Columbia, and Quebec. We’re impressed with its speeds, locations, and the perks that come with its plans.

What we like: Affordable fibre internet at various speeds

Telus’ plans offer Canadians lightning-fast fibre internet at reasonable prices. The best Telus internet plan is the PureFibre Internet 300/300, which offers 250Mbps downloads and uploads and unlimited data for $80/month. The PureFibre 1.5 Gigabit Internet plan is an ideal premium plan for gamers and work-from-home professionals, offering  downloads and unlimited data for /month.

What we like: Fixed wireless internet for rural areas

Telus provides internet to rural areas through its Smart Hub plans, which offer fixed wireless internet to Alberta, British Columbia, and Quebec. While these plans feature speeds much slower than the carrier’s fibre plans, they reach remote stretches of Canada previously disconnected from internet service.

The cheapest option is the Smart Hub 25 plan, which offers 25Mbps download and upload speeds and 100GB of data for $70/month. The fastest option is the Smart Hub 100 Unlimited plan, which offers 100Mbps download and upload speeds and 500GB of data for $110/month.

What we like: Bundling with Optik TV

Telus’ Internet 75 fibre plan, which offers 75Mbps download and upload speed along with unlimited data, can be bundled with Optik TV, allowing customers to pair live TV, streaming, and premium sports with their internet for $128/month. That’s not where the perks end: Telus also waives its $50 activation fee and provides a $100 credit on the first bill if you order the bundle online. 

What we don't like: Coverage limited to Alberta, British Columbia, and Quebec

Although Telus’ mobile network is the largest in Canada, their internet service is only available in Alberta, British Columbia, and Quebec. Telus’ fastest plan, PureFibre X, is only available in Alberta and British Columbia. As Telus continues expanding its fibre optic network, we hope to see more plans available in other provinces.

What we don't like: Fibre plan prices increase significantly after two years

Telus’ PureFibre plans increase $40-46 after the initial two-year contract. This is fairly common with internet plans in Canada and, considering that, we don’t think this is a deal breaker, especially because the prices for those two years are still bargains for internet this fast. Still, we do recommend looking for another provider and plan at the end of your contract.

Telus is one of the best internet providers in Canada, though its competitors offer some enticing plans and perks. Let’s take a look at some of the other providers worth considering.

Telus Internet vs. Bell Internet

The only Bell internet plan available in Quebec is a good one. The Gigabit Fibe 3.0 plan offers unlimited data and download speeds up to 3Gbps for only $85/month. That’s over $30 cheaper than Telus’ PureFibre 1.5 Gigabit Internet for a plan that’s twice as fast. If you’re in Quebec, then Bell is the better pick, both for your household and for your wallet.

Telus Internet vs. Altima Internet

Altima provides high-speed fibre internet to five provinces, including every province where Telus is available. In Quebec, Altima’s 1G/1Gbps plan offers download and upload speeds up to  and unlimited data for /month, undercutting Telus’ comparable PureFibre Gigabit Internet plan by $19. 

Altima also offers high-speed cable internet to Alberta and British Columbia, including the 750/20Mbps plan, which offers download speeds up to 750Mbps and unlimited data for $99/month. But Telus has the edge here: its PureFibre Gigabit Internet plan is the better deal, offering fibre internet and slightly faster downloads for the same price.

Telus Internet vs. TekSavvy Internet

TekSavvy provides fibre, cable, and DSL internet service to Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario. Its fibre plans, however, are limited to Ontario. Although fibre isn’t available in Alberta and British Columbia, TekSavvy does provide fast cable service to the provinces, offering viable alternatives to Telus’ plans.

The best TekSavvy plan is the Cable 1000 Unlimited, which offers 1000Mbps downloads and unlimited data for $74.95/month. Still, Telus’ PureFibre Gigabit Internet plan is the better bet here, with about the same speeds for a cheaper monthly price.

Telus is an excellent choice for residents of Alberta, British Columbia, and Quebec looking for high-speed fibre internet, with enough plans to satisfy any household, regardless of its internet needs. Telus is also a solid option for customers in rural areas of those provinces who need fixed wireless internet for basic internet use.
