SaskTel knows Saskatchewan—after all, it is a provincial Crown company. The customers are the owners, so it’s no surprise that it offers the best cell phone deals in Saskatchewan.

The totalSHARE Nationwide plan is the best SaskTel unlimited data plan and the best overall plan, offering 50GB of full-speed 5G data and unlimited talk and text for $90/month. Budget-minded folks can take advantage of the $25 noSTRINGS Talk and Text plan, which offers unlimited talk and text. If you're looking for a family plan, the totalSHARE Nationwide plan provides four lines for $235/month when you BYOD.

Read on to learn about the best SaskTel cell phone plans.

How we picked the best SaskTel plans

  • Price & value
We ensured you’re getting the most bang for your buck without sacrificing the essentials to keep you connected.
  • High-speed data
We looked at whether the amount of guaranteed “premium” data was reasonable for the plan price, and flagged if you’re being overcharged for data you likely don’t need.
  • Coverage & network reliability
We evaluated each carrier’s nationwide 4G LTE and 5G coverage to predict your service quality (no dropped calls allowed!).
  • Plan extras and perks
If you get free Netflix or a hefty hotspot, we factored those in relative to the cost of the plan.

SaskTel totalSHARE Nationwide (4 lines) Unlimited $235/month

Unlimited Data Cell Phone Plan

4.5 out of 5 overall

totalSHARE Nationwide | $90/month

  • Pros: Solid 5G data allotment, unlimited talk and text, no contract
  • Cons: Upfront cost

The best SaskTel cell phone plan also happens to be the carrier's best unlimited plan. For $90/month, you pick up unlimited talk and text along with 50GB of full-speed 5G data. If you live in an area where SaskTel has yet to offer 5G, you'll still be able to connect to their fast 4G LTE or 4G networks.

The average Canadian only uses 6GB of data per month, so we don't expect you to exceed this plan's monthly full-speed allotment. If you do, you should know your speeds will be slowed. Still, SaskTel's throttled speeds are faster than most, offering a maximum of 1Mbps compared with the standard 512Kbps of other carriers.

To get the low price of $90/month, you'll need to BYOD to this plan. If you're looking for a new phone, SaskTel does have the latest models, like the iPhone 15 and Google Pixel 8, but we strongly recommend bringing your older phone to the plan and saving on your monthly payment.

Talk and Text Plan

4 out of 5 overall

noSTRINGS Talk & Text 25 | $25/month

  • Pros: Affordable Canada and U.S. long-distance plan, free selectWI-FI access, no commitment
  • Cons: No mobile data included, roaming charges apply in the U.S.

There’s no better SaskTel plan for basic connectivity than a noSTRINGS Talk & Text 25 plan. Even though you need to be a Saskatchewan resident to sign up, the plan includes coverage across Canada. Better yet, you can also make unlimited long-distance calls to anywhere in Canada and the U.S. If you take the plan south of the border, roaming costs $3 per day in the States, and long-distance calls back home are still included.

The plan doesn’t include data, but you get access to SaskTel selectWI-FI, which provides free and unlimited Wi-Fi access at over 2,400 locations. Since it’s a prepaid plan, you can pull the plug and move your phone—and phone number—to another carrier at any time without paying cancellation fees.

While SaskTel has the cheapest plan in Canada that includes U.S. long-distance calling, there are other prepaid cell phone deals for about the same price that include data or reward points

Family Plan

4 out of 5 overall

totalSHARE Canada & U.S. | $235/month for four lines

  • Pros: Cheap monthly payment, 5G speeds, unlimited talk and text
  • Cons: Expensive upfront cost

It's rare to find a family plan offering a lot for a little, but the family plan iteration of SaskTel's totalSHARE Nationwide plan does just that: you'll pick up 200GB of shareable full-speed 5G data for $235/month. Comparable plans from the Big Three are usually more expensive, while cheaper deals from flankers brands and MVNOs don't provide 5G service.

Methodology: How WhistleOut rates cell phone plans

WhistleOut evaluates phone plans based on the following criteria:

  • Price & value: Not all cheap plans are “bad,” and not all expensive plans are worth it. We look at everything a plan includes and compare it to other plans from the same carrier, as well as similar plans from competitors in the market, to determine whether the value is consistent with the price.
  • High-speed data: Also called “premium” data, this is how much data you get at full 4G/5G speeds before they can or will slow down. The more guaranteed high-speed data the plan includes, the better experience you’ll generally have—but there’s also usually a limit to how much you need, and we ensure that you’re not overpaying for data that will go unused.
  • Coverage & network reliability: The breadth of each carrier’s 4G LTE and 5G networks determines your reception and service. Particularly in the case of 5G, some carriers offer far more robust coverage than others, which affects how their phone plans perform in different parts of the country.
  • Plan extras and perks: In addition to the basics—talk, text, and data—some plans throw in freebies like hotspot allowances, cloud storage, entertainment subscriptions, or service discounts.

Our mobile experts leveraged proprietary data and real-world customer feedback to evaluate the best SaskTel plans. We compared plans by analyzing their coverage, cost, and plan options. We considered plan-specific elements, including perks, and premium data allowances. After performing hands-on testing and extensive research, including customer feedback, we picked the plans we feel meet the needs of most people.
