We've all needed a screenshot for something: saving a document for later, sharing a text conversation, capturing the truly outrageous headline that's come across our feed...the list goes on.

If you're a Samsung user, taking a screenshot on your phone or tablet is easy. You can use button combinations, swipe your hand across the screen, use a voice command, use your S pen, and more.

In the following guide, we break down the quick-and-easy steps you need to take to grab that screenshot.

Want to quickly master the art of screenshotting with your Samsung device? Read on to find the way that’s most convenient for you.

How to Screenshot on a Samsung Galaxy

There are several ways to take a screenshot on a Samsung device: use a button combination, swipe your hand across the screen, use a voice command, or use your S Pen. These solutions work for Samsung Galaxy Note phones, Galaxy S phones, and Galaxy Flip and Fold phones.

1. Use a button combination

Perhaps the fastest way to screenshot on a Samsung is to press the Volume Down button and the Power button simultaneously. The screen will flash and you’ll see a screenshot toolbar at the bottom of the screen for a few seconds. You can either click on the screenshot from that bar or navigate to your photo album and edit or view it there.

2. Swipe your hand across the screen

Samsung phones allow you to do all sorts of shortcuts using hand gestures. The one you need to perform to take a screenshot is the “palm swipe.” Here’s how to do it:

  • Pull up the screen you want to screenshot.
  • Hold your hand at the edge of the screen—doesn’t matter if it’s the right or the left edge.
  • Turn your hand sideways so your pinkie is close to touching the screen.
  • Slide your hand across the screen in a smooth motion and wait for the screen to flash.

3. Ask Bixby via Voice Command

The Samsung personal assistant, Bixby, can help you take a screenshot. All you have to do is open the screen to the image you want to capture, then say, “Hey Bixby, take a screenshot.”

4. Use your S Pen

You can take a screenshot on your Samsung device by removing your S pen from your phone, pulling up the screen you want to capture, and tapping the “air command menu” button. After that, you’ll select “screen write,” and the device will take a screenshot. If you want, you can use your S pen to draw or write on the image. With this option, you must click Save to store the image in your photo app.

5. Use the Task Edge Panel

This screenshot option takes a bit longer than the other options because you first have to add the Tasks Edge panel and then add the shortcut that enables you to take a screenshot.

Here's how:

  • Swipe left on the Edge panel on the right-hand side of the screen.
  • Click Settings at the bottom.
  • Choose the Tasks panel.
  • Tap Edit and you will see shortcuts on the right-hand side.
  • Click Take screenshots on the left to add it to your shortcuts.
  • Press the Back button two times to return to your Home screen.
  • Pull up the screen you want to screenshot.
  • Swipe left on the Edge panel to open it.
  • Swipe left again to open the Tasks panel.
  • Click Take screenshot.

Now that you’ve added the “take screenshot” shortcut to your Task Edge panel, taking a screenshot will be quicker and easier moving forward. You’ll just have to swipe to the panel and then select Take screenshot.

How to Use Scroll Capture

You may want to capture a website, article, or image that requires multiple screenshots. Instead of having to send them individually, you can use scroll capture to take a single screenshot of a longer page.

And the good news is that you can take a screenshot using scroll capture with your preferred method, whether palm swipe or button combinations.

Here’s how to use scroll capture:

  • Pull up the screen you want to screenshot.
  • Press the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time. The Smart capture menu will appear.
  • Touch the Scroll capture icon (which resembles a downward arrow).
  • Click that same icon again to start scroll capturing.
  • Continue tapping the button until you’ve captured everything.
  • Tap outside the Smart capture menu, then go to your gallery to view your screenshot.

Screenshotting on a Samsung is not only easy, but you have several options, allowing you to go with the one that’s most intuitive for you.
