The important thing is that the iPhone 17e still uses an OLED panel, meaning you'll get incredible colours and deep black contrast while streaming content or playing games. The iPhone 17e features a familiar aluminum frame and a larger Dynamic Island than its contemporaries. While the Action Button supports the Camera Control, it is not built in.

iPhone 17e camera: Good enough versus better

One of the most obvious differences between the iPhone 17e and the iPhone 17 is the camera array. The iPhone 17e features a single 48MP Fusion camera, sporting 24-megapixel and 48-megapixel options. That sounds limiting on paper, but Apple’s image processing continues to do heavy lifting. In brighter environments, the f/1.6 aperture does quite a lot to retain details. What you don't get with the iPhone 17e is the 48-megapixel ultrawide lens that the iPhone 17 offers. Personally speaking, I like to have this tool in my back pocket at times. Content creators or more pro-level photographers may miss this option. If you take photos for memories, social media, or to capture videos in your day-to-day life, the iPhone 17e is excellent. If photography is a hobby or you constantly use an ultrawide lens, the iPhone 17 earns its higher price.

iPhone 17e battery: Exceptional for all-day use

One aspect I really want to commend the iPhone 17e for is its battery and charging options. The iPhone 17e sports the same 4,005 mAh battery as the iPhone 16e, but that isn't a bad thing. On average, I was able to get a full day's use out of the iPhone 17e while frequently streaming content on YouTube and Netflix and scrolling through TikTok.

The iPhone 17 sports a slightly smaller 3,692 mAh battery. However, I was able to extract similar all-day battery life. The minimal discrepancy is likely due to the A19 chipset's optimization, which offers a 5-core GPU in the iPhone 17 versus a 4-core GPU in the iPhone 17e.

This year, Apple brought MagSafe wireless charging to the iPhone 17e. After omitting it on the iPhone 16e, I've been able to use all my MagSafe accessories, including my FineWoven Wallet or my MagSafe-enabled Belkin charging stand on my bedside table. With Standby functionality, the iPhone 17e also turns into a stylish clock when placed vertically on a stand. It's a small yet meaningful inclusion, as it's hard to go back to MagSafe charging.
