It was probably inevitable, but now we’re starting to hear rumors that Nokia and Microsoft will be continuing their mobile alliance with the creation of a Windows 8 Tablet. The tablet in question is expected to be released in Q4 of this year and to come running on a dual-core Snapdragon chipset.

However, the this rumor which seems to have begun on DigiTimes, is still just that: a rumor. Late in 2011 a Nokia spokesperson stated that there were no announcements to be made regarding tablets, but that could now be far enough in the past to discount as an accurate statement.

If true, a Nokia Windows 8 tablet could be in important step in the tablet market. Right now the tablet world is absolutely dominated by Apple, with Android offering up less competition than it’s mustered in the smartphone arena. As such any and all of the earliest Windows 8 tablets to be released will be pivotal in the attempt to grab the market share that Android has so far been unable to achieve.

Nokia or not, Windows 8 tablets are just over the horizon and we’re definitely keen to see what happens in the tablet world as a response to their arrival.
