Text Family Plan Savings With Koodo Mobile over image of two people with smartphones

Article Summary

Bad news for Koodo customers who want to share their data plans. Koodo does not offer family plans. Instead, Koodo specializes in individual plans with lots of data, low prices, and some of the best customer service in Canada. Although you can add more family phone lines to one account so you only have to manage one bill, there are no data-sharing benefits available. However, Koodo now offers a referral program that can earn you up to $300 per year.

Koodo offers some of the lowest prices for talk, text and data on Canada's largest, fastest and most reliable network. There are no big incentives for adding more lines to one account, but Koodo will reward you with $25 credit on your bill if you refer a new customer to sign up. This counts even if you add a line to your own account (not including tablet or home phone plans).

Koodo Mobile and Data Sharing

At the moment, Koodo Mobile does not offer any data sharing across more than one line. You can add multiple lines to one account, but there's no discount for doing so. However, if you add the line using Koodo's referral program, you both can earn a $25 credit.

While they don't offer data sharing plans, Koodo offers a few alternatives:

Low Price on Big Data

While Koodo runs on the Telus carrier network, their prices tend to be lower, especially when you bring your own phone. Talk, text and data plans are usually cheaper on Koodo than the major wireless carriers including Rogers and Bell. Even without any sales, you can usually find unlimited talk, text, and 4GB for at least $20 less per month than Telus smartphone plans.

Koodo not only has national coverage on Canada's largest, fastest and most reliable carrier network but the carrier also rates in the top 2 for best customer service in Canada. While you may not get Family Share plans with Koodo, they may be your best choice for multiple individual plans.

Koodo's exclusive Shock-Free Data feature turns off the data connection when any line reaches the monthly data cap. It can be turned back on by authorizing extra charges over phone or text message, but you'll never have unexpected data overages with a Koodo plan.

If you live in Quebec, Manitoba or Saskatchewan you may find even cheaper pricing. Strong competition in those regions result in different (and usually better) deals.

Tablet Plans on Koodo Mobile

Sharing one account for multiple lines works even when adding LTE-enabled tablets. In fact, they require you to have an existing smartphone plan before you can access their tablet data plans. WhistleOut Canada's exclusive guide has information on Koodo Mobile data plans and tablet plans. Just like smartphone lines, there is no discount for adding a tablet data plan to your account.

Referral Program: Earn Up To $300/Year

Koodo has a program that rewards loyal customers who refer new business. Koodo is happy to let you sell their services and you'll get a $25 credit on your bill every time you do. So will the new customer!

How to Earn $25 Credit From Koodo:

If a friend, coworker, teammate or distant relative is looking to switch mobile carriers, tell them about your experience with Koodo. Make a reference by visiting the Koodo Refer-a-Friend registration page and send them an invite. If they claim the offer then you'll get a $5 credit for 5 months while they remain a customer.

The recipient of the referral also gets a $25 credit in the form of 5 x $5 monthly credits. That's a nice way to start a new contract.

There's no limit to how many referrals you can make but you'll be capped at $300 per calendar year, including the $25 if you were the recipient of a signup referral. It's a nice reward for helping your friends to save money.

If you're adding a line to your own account, use this method and you'll still get the $25 finders fee PLUS the $25 referral bonus. Koodo takes $10/month off your bill for five months. Sadly, tablet and home phone plans are excluded from this program. You also can't refer current Koodo customers.

Earn $10 from Koodo Prepaid

Koodo has some of WhistleOut's favourite prepaid programs. You pay a base fee as low as $15/month and Booster add-ons add talk time or data that doesn't expire until you use it up. Imagine getting an extra $120/year just by letting other people know about your experience?

There's a separate page you have to use, but get a referral code from Koodo Prepaid and immediately give it to a friend. The money shows up quickly too; within 24 hours of activating their line, both you and your referral get $10 credits on your prepaid account.

There's no limit to how many people you can refer this way, but Koodo caps individual benefits at $120 per year.
