Android Market has traditionally been somewhat insecure when compared to its iOS counterpart when it comes to direct access on your handset. While it’s true that having to enter a password every time you want to download a paid or free app from the Apple App Store can be annoying, there’s definitely something to be said for the security it brings. Android Market, on the other hand, has simply been an place from where apps of all prices can be downloaded without so much as a “are you sure?” from Google, if accessed directly from your Android handset.
It hasn’t been a huge issue, as usually you’ll find your phone in the hands of people you trust, barring any theft or questionable friends. But it would still be nice to have the option of entering a security password whenever an app is to be downloaded.
Well the new Android Market update is bringing just this to its users. It isn’t compulsory, so if you think this sounds annoying then don’t fret. But for anyone with kids, or who leaves their phone lying around their ‘hilarious’ prankster buddies it will be relieving to have that extra layer of protection on their handset.
You don’t even have to set your phone up with a lock-screen pin number; the new Android Market PIN system is totally separate from that.
The update also brings the ability to Google +1 apps you have enjoyed, which is a nice addition. Being able to show to your friends which apps you have given your personal tick of approval, as well as giving positive feedback to Android Market, is an efficient way to promote great apps and give them a bit of deserved exposure.
Other than these two factors there’s no real major changes coming in this update, but we’ll definitely be downloaded it as soon as we can for that PIN number. How about you?
