Our picks for the best Petro-Canda plans include the $40 Talk, Text & Data plan, the $20 Talk & Text plan, and the $25 Top-Up plan. Let's get into the details.

Best Petro-Canada Mobility
Plan for Smartphone Users

Basic minutes and texts don’t cut it when you’re on the road. You need data. With Petro-Canada's affordable Talk, Text, & Data plan, you can load up your iPhone or Android smartphone with enough data to keep you connected.

4 out of 5 overall

Petro-Canada Mobility | $40 Talk, Text & Data | $40/month—Best Petro-Canada data plan

It was only a few years ago that most Canadians were squeezing their data use under a 2GB limit. Today, you can get far more data, unlimited talk and text, voicemail, and call display for $40 per 30 days. This plan also includes 5GB of high-speed 4G LTE data. When you’re on the road, you don’t want to rely on partner networks as Freedom Mobile does. Instead, Petro-Canada Mobility offers coast-to-coast coverage on the Rogers Wireless network.

Take a look at the competition to see how good this deal is. Major brands like Fido, Koodo, and Virgin Plus offer 4GB for $41.25. Cheap prepaid alternatives like Public Mobile and Chatr have 5GB for $40, but at slower 3G speeds (3Mbps max). Many Canadians never use more than 5GB of data each month, so jump on this prepaid plan from Petro-Canada and pay less.

  • Pros: Full-speed 4G LTE data, nationwide coverage, change plans (or carriers) at any time with no cancellation fees
  • Cons: No in-person customer service, poor cell phone selection

Petro-Canada has a limited selection of phone models, which are not very good. We recommend bringing your own device or buying a cheap used cell phone

Best Petro-Canada Mobility
Talk-and-Text Plan

Every wireless carrier offers a basic talk-and-text plan, but most include just 100 minutes or cost at least $25/month! Petro-Canada Mobility has those plans too, but take a look at this plan that we think is one of the best deals in the country.

4 out of 5 overall

Petro-Canada Mobility | $20 Talk & Text | $20/month—Best Petro-Canada plan for nationwide talk time

A basic talk and text plan may suit you fine since free Wi-Fi is everywhere. For $20 every 30 days, you get 200 minutes of talk time plus a bonus of 50 minutes for a limited time. That’s 250 minutes to and from anywhere in Canada. Going this route provides excellent value and is possibly the best option for the price in the country.

Petro-Canada Mobility uses the Rogers Wireless network with comprehensive coverage across most of Canada’s one million kilometers of public roads and highways. Since this is a prepaid plan, you can reload online or at any of Petro-Canada’s 1,100 stations if you run out.

  • Pros: Long-distance included, unlimited texts, no overage fees, add minutes online or at Petro-Canada stations
  • Con: Chat apps that require data won’t work

Best Petro-Canada Mobility
Pay-Per-Use Plan

If you’re only using your phone for a few minutes per month, a pay-per-use plan has the same cost as a monthly plan but lasts months before expiring.

4 out of 5 overall

Petro-Canada Mobility | $25 Top Up | $25/120 days—Best Petro-Canada pay-as-you-go plan

Pay less than $10 monthly and stay connected with the $25 Top Up card from Petro-Canada Mobility. As long as you maintain a balance on your account, you get free voicemail, caller ID, and incoming texts. You’re charged by the minute for phone calls and all outgoing text messages with these rates:

  • $0.40/minute within Canada
  • $0.55/minute to the U.S.
  • $0.20/outgoing text to Canada or the U.S. ($0.40 internationally)
  • $0.60/message for picture messaging

You can also use data on this plan, but it’s expensive at $0.15/MB. We recommend disabling mobile data on your phone, or you’ll burn through a $25 credit for less than 200MB. It’s worth noting that the carrier charges a monthly 911 Recovery Fee of $1.25. Additionally, any remaining balance carries over to the next pay period if you top up your account before the expiration date.

  • Pros: Simple terms and affordable rates, any extra balance rolls over, includes voicemail and call display
  • Cons: Too expensive for regular use, mobile data use will eat up your credit fast

Best Petro-Canada Mobility Plans: FAQs

Energy company Suncor owns Petro-Canada Mobility. Commonly known for operating gas and electric vehicle charging stations across the country, Petro-Canada was a Crown company that privatized and ultimately merged with Suncor in 2010. The company launched Petro-Canada Mobility in 2006 as an affordable MVNO wireless service and continues to offer prepaid and pay-as-you-go plans with nationwide coverage.

Petro-Canada Mobility uses the Rogers Wireless Network to provide its customers with comprehensive nationwide coverage. Customers can manage their account online or by purchasing top-up cards available at over 1,100 Petro-Canada locations. There’s no access to the Rogers 5G network for Petro-Canada Mobility customers at this time

New customers may buy a 3-in-1 SIM card for Petro-Canada Mobility online with free shipping or at participating Petro-Canada stations. Activate your Petro-Canada Mobility account by inserting the SIM into your device, then logging into the self-service website. On the website, you can add credit, choose a monthly plan, and check your balance.

Any phones that work on the Rogers Wireless network—including phones sold by Fido and Chatr—should work without any issues on Petro-Canada Mobility. You may need to unlock devices over four years old, but the original carrier should provide this service for free.
