Mark Zuckerberg’s statement in late 2010 that there will never be a Facebook phone is starting to look a little dicey, especially on the back INQ turning up at TechCrunch headquarters yesterday and showing off a prototype. “Our whole strategy is not to build any specific device or integration or anything like that. Because we’re not trying to compete with Apple or the Droid or any other hardware manufacturer for that matter.”
The much awaited and rumoured “PlayStation Phone” is finally starting to gain a little substance in the tech media. Making its commercial debut with the moniker “Sony Ericsson Xperia Play”, the gaming/phone hybrid is already making ripples in the smartphone market.
Motorola has joined the dual-core smartphone revolution, following in the footsteps of the LG Optimus 2X. Motorola’s new super-powered toy, the Motorola Atrix, will hit the world market in late February and is sure to make a splash. Powered by Android 2.2 (Froyo) the dual-core chipset makes short work of just about any task you’d think to throw at it. Unexpectedly some of that funding came from KT Corp, South Korea’s sole agent for iPhone plans.

Some of us in the WhistleOut office are big fans of browser tabs - a feature available in most browsers nowadays, including Internet Explorer 7 and upwards. Note, if you are still on IE6, try your hardest to get off it and upgrade asap. The funeral has even happened. Get on it.

That’s not just for smartphones, by the way. Apple is now Australia’s number 1 mobile phone vendor.
It has recently come to light that Microsoft’s latest attempt to achieve success in the smartphone market might be stumbling well short of the mark. Despite a multi-million dollar advertising campaign and one of the biggest launches in history for a mobile operating system (mobile OS), Windows Phone 7 devices just aren’t walking out the door.
