Koodo is a flanker brand operating on the Telus network, known for offering cheaper phone deals and prepaid plans to Canadians. As a Koodo customer, you have a free perk called Call Control, and it's available to all postpaid customers. Call Control assists in blocking annoying scammers and spammers.
Call Control, available to all postpaid customers, is a free anti-spam feature built for today’s noisy phone environment. It prompts every incoming caller to enter a randomly generated number before being connected to your line.
Below, we’ll teach you the ins and outs of Call Control, how to add it to your account, and how to turn it on. We’ll also explain some other basic ways you can protect yourself from unwanted phone calls.
What is Koodo Call Control and how does it work?
Call Control works by asking unknown callers and numbers that aren’t in your contacts or on your authorized list to enter a randomly generated number string. These codes consist of a series of digits between 0 and 9 and must be entered before the call goes through to your phone. If they enter the number correctly, the call connects. If not (or if there’s no response at all), the call is blocked and a standard Call Control message is played.
On paper, Call Control is a novel feature. However, even in 2026, Call Control isn't perfect. For instance, you might need to manually authorize people you want to hear from, like delivery services or doctors’ offices. With this in mind, it’s still highly effective at reducing automated spam and telemarketers that don’t respond to the prompt. How to add and set up Koodo Call Control
All Koodo postpaid customers can add Call Control for free, though it’s not a default setting.
You can add Koodo’s call control feature in just four simple steps:
Log in to your Koodo Self Serve account.
Select Mobile Services from the dropdown menu.
Select Manage add-ons and find Call Control in the list
Select Add to plan.
From there, you’ll need to turn on the feature. Here’s how to activate Call Control:
Back in Mobile Services, select Call Control.
Tap Start Using Call Control.
Important note to remember
Call Control requires a postpaid Koodo plan as it’s not available on prepaid plans. We’re always tracking the best plans from the Telus flanker, along with the most popular Koodo options from across the site, which you can find below.
How to turn off Koodo Call Control
There are times when you might want to disable Call Control temporarily, like when you’re expecting an important call from someone not in your contacts.
The good news is that it’s easy to turn off Call Control. Here’s how to disable the feature:
Log in to Self Serve.
Go to Mobile Services and select Call Control.
Toggle the feature Off.
You can always turn it back on later if unwanted calls pick up again.
How to block spam phone calls and hide your number
Koodo’s Call Control does most of the heavy lifting, but no single feature can block everything. Scam tactics evolve, spoofed numbers rotate constantly, and some calls slip through by design. If you want the cleanest possible call experience in 2026, layering a few extra tools makes a real difference.
Block numbers in Self Serve
If a specific number keeps getting through, blocking it at the account level is one of the most reliable fixes.
Using Koodo Self Serve, you can review your recent call history and manually block nuisance numbers. Once blocked, those calls won’t ring your phone again, even if your device settings change or you switch phones.Use device-level blocking on iPhone and Android
Modern smartphones are surprisingly good at filtering calls, especially when paired with Call Control. On iPhone and Android devices, you can silence unknown callers or block specific numbers that have reached out.
One of my favourite recent features of iOS 26 is Call Screening. On iPhones running the most recent software, calls from unknown numbers never ring. These unwanted callers are then given an automated message in which they must provide the reason for calling, which is then transcribed to you to read prior to answering. This extra step helps reduce spam or being bothered by incoming calls.
Join the National Do Not Call List
You can also add your number to the CRTC’s National Do Not Call List, a free service that prohibits telemarketers from contacting you. Don’t buy into conspiracy theories suggesting that the Do Not Call List is run by marketing agencies; the list is run by the Government of Canada and mandates telemarketers cease calls to you within 31 days of you joining the list.
Block your number when calling outside your contact list
If you ever need to call a business, marketplace listing, or unfamiliar number, dialling *67 before the phone number hides your caller ID. This won’t reduce incoming spam directly, but it helps prevent your number from being harvested and resold, which is often how spam volumes increase over time.
Block unwanted numbers on your device
If all else fails, you can block unwanted numbers directly on your phone. Follow our guides for blocking numbers on iPhone and Android devices.
